Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams providing structural engineering and related technical expertise primarily for dam structures, hydropower facilities, and flood control structures, such as spillways, decant systems, overflow weirs, culverts, pump/lift stations, and other miscellaneous hydraulic structures. Primary responsibilities will include design and analysis, project management, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, site inspections, dam safety evaluations, risk analyses, and minor construction observation. The work may require short-term, out-of-town assignments. As markets fluctuate, opportunities may also include working on renewable projects such as wind turbine foundation design, mining, and industrial processing facility projects.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)

10 years of related work experience

Professional Engineer (PE) certification

Work experience with AutoCAD or Revit and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD.

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients

Strong technical and problem-solving skills

Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

Interest in leading and mentoring early career engineers

Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs

Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering, now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:

15+ years of related work experience

Master's degree in civil or structural engineering

Experience in the consulting industry

Experience performing dam safety reviews, audits, and inspections as well as structural stability analyses for hydraulic structures

Familiarity with hydrotechnical, mechanical, and electrical aspects of hydropower operations

Familiarity with hydraulic design of dam appurtenant structures
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota; Ann Arbor, Michigan; or Denver, Colorado, offices.

Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $102,000–125,000/year. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
