Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will provide structural engineering services as a member of multidisciplinary teams working on projects for industrial, power, manufacturing, refining, and mining clients, as well as dam structures, hydropower facilities, flood control structures, and other miscellaneous hydraulic structures. Responsibilities include design and analysis, project management, preparation of plans and specifications, report writing, cost estimating, site inspections, and construction oversight. The work may require short-term, out-of-town work assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural emphasis (including structural analysis and steel and concrete design)

5 years of related work experience

Professional engineer (PE) licensure

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients

Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness

Willingness to work as part of a project team in an environment that encourages self-initiative
-
A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs

Work experience with AutoCAD and structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:

8+ years of related work experience

Master's degree in civil or structural engineering

Experience with 3D software such as Revit or CadWorx
-
Strong technical and problem-solving skills involving a wide range of structural analysis and design

Experience in the consulting industry

Experience leading and mentoring entry-level engineers

Demonstrated ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams

Demonstrated project organization and management skills
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr’s Ann Arbor, Michigan, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that have limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
