General Position Description

The primary role of the Structural Engineer II is to determine the suitability of architectural aluminum products used in commercial applications. The position requires thorough knowledge of curtainwall and storefront façade design, and civil/structural and engineering techniques. Structural Engineer II is responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. The Engineer will devise new approaches to problems; prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs; and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, and accepted engineering practices at Tubelite.

Principle Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Provides technical support to external clients, architects and vendors as well as internal clients (estimating, order entry, manufacturing, marketing, sales and purchasing).
  • Reviews projects for proper application and engineering of Tubelite systems and products to meet or exceed performance requirements as outlined in published specifications for the project
  • Addresses client questions and concerns regarding system application, design fabrication and installation.
  • Creates job specific detail drawings for clients and architects.
  • Identifies needs and drives activities in product and application research, analysis, validation and testing. Builds samples as needed to check for potential problems and test solutions.
  • Provides written reports documenting recommendations and summarizing results of analysis and testing.
  • Follows documented procedures.
  • Develops engineering policies and procedures in conjunction with Structural Engineering Supervisor.
  • Ensures that department goals are met and that projects are completed on time, accurately, and within budget - Act with a sense of urgency.
  • Handles large and complex projects with basic direction and minimal oversight.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME) with an emphasis on Structural/Materials Engineering.
  • Experience in Architectural /Construction related position performing analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of national building codes including appropriate application.
  • Proficient using 2D and 3D CAD design and analysis software
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to apply drafting techniques and engineering technology balancing mechanical and architectural skill sets.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft software.
  • Proficient using small hand tools and small precision measuring instruments.
  • Specific experience with AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Inventor and C-Beam software.
