Principal Objective of Position:                                                                                                     

The Quality Specialist I supports the activities of the Quality Manager in inspections and training staff on new gauges and/or new quality inspections. The Quality Specialist I will also serve as a backup for the team lead regarding leadership of the line,  shipping, and receiving.  When not serving in this role, or as a backup to the line lead, the quality specialist will continue to also be a warehouse inspector.  This is a hands-on working function.

  • Measures key quality characteristics of a part by sampling parts and analyzing trends both as first piece verification as well as during the process.
  • May be sent to the customer to sort/inspect and represent the company.
  • Verifies that safe launch procedures and practices are being followed during all quality checks.
  • Assist warehouse manpower with quality questions and when needed consults with quality manager.
  • Alerts the Quality Manager to any abnormalities or failed parts.
  • Trains warehouse personnel on gage usage.
  • Trains warehouse personnel on quality alerts.
  • Audits safe launch sheets.
  • Audits and submits end of the day paperwork on inventory counts, defects, etc.
  • Audits all gauges and ensures timely calibration to remain in compliance w/ ISO.
  • Collects data and measures parts as part of a company's continuous improvement plan.
  • Understands and communicates priorities for the inspectors based upon input from the quality manager and plant manager.
  • Trains operators in skills of measurement and inspection
  • Backup to the floor lead for all things associated with shipping and receiving.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:                                                                                           

  • High School diploma
  • 2 years of experience in quality inspection
  • OTJ/Formal training on blue print reading
  • OTJ/Formal training on gage / inspection equipment use

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:                                                                                  

  • Must understand quality principles and concepts concerning process, control and verification, variation, problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Understand problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints with understanding of GD&T drawing notations
  • Must be experienced in the quality discipline body of knowledge and basic quality tools.
  • Be able to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Good problem-solving skills to drive continual improvement of the quality system.
  • Familiarity with the PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and various ISO 9001 and standard quality procedures
  • Understanding and ability to clean and engage in basic maintenance of gauges and measuring tools as well as 5S of quality lab
  • Knowledge of shipping and receiving process
  • Ability to operate a fork truck.
  • Ability to and skill in using calipers, micrometers, gages and other measuring devices and quality tooling.
  • Ability and skill in reading blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications:                                                                                                                

  • Training or certification in quality inspection.
  • Experience in ISO Auding process.

Work Environment:                                                                                                                         

This job operates in a warehouse environment and in a professional office environment.  Limited exposure to the elements may be required, but most work will be performed indoors.  Some of the work will require exposure to loud noises.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma
  • 2 years of experience in quality inspection
