As Strategist, my objective is:
To develop effective, insight-driven marketing strategies to achieve the desired objective of Simantel clients.
A Strategist takes an active role in the entire client marketing process. Strategists are responsible for researching, developing, and communicating strategic marketing plans to meet the company’s goals. They lead and optimize marketing efforts for company and client campaigns and collaborate with multifunctional teams to execute them. They also align marketing efforts with overall business strategies. A strategist ensures sound results-driven strategies from start to finish.
This is a Hybrid or full-time Remote position. It’s a Hybrid role if you live in the Central Illinois area, which requires you to be in the Peoria, IL office Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday with the option to work from home Monday and Friday.
The outcomes I need to produce for clients are:

  • Ensure client success through goal setting, which aligns all team members to create work that achieves defined business and marketing outcomes
  • Develop comprehensive marketing strategies that consider message, experience design, channel activation, content marketing, and database marketing that are informed by quantitative and qualitative insights
  • Provide customer-centric consultation to inform decision making and planning
  • Provide thought leadership in consumer behavior, creative media engagements, emerging media, accountability, and measurement
  • Develop artifacts that help drive marketing strategies forward, including but not limited to personas, customer journey maps, key marketing touchpoints and behavior driven user flows, content models, audience matrixes, and intelligence reports
  • Develop artifacts that inform content, data and technology infrastructure and measurement throughout the user journey
  • Maintain focus on measurement and optimization throughout the lifecycle of the work


The outcomes I need to produce for the agency are:

  • Maintaining client satisfaction as it relates to marketing strategy and performance
  • Identifying opportunities for continued account growth across new initiatives, additional services, and optimizations
  • Collaboratively work with project teams to scope and develop project plans with dependencies and key milestones
  • Support Simantel's competitive edge through continued learning on marketing trends, philosophies, and emerging channels
  • Serve as a connection point for team members to maintain strategic alignment throughout the lifecycle of a project or initiative
  • Recommendations for iterative improvement of ongoing client work


To produce these outcomes, I need to:

  • Effectively collaborate with account team members to drive scoping, client negotiation and managing expectations
  • Identify information gaps and provide solutions for how to fill them as how it relates to informing marketing strategies (including but not limited to identifying and pursuing primary and secondary research needs)
  • Develop marketing strategies and associated artifacts to support and communicate the approach to others (including but not limited to Strategic Plan documentation, audience segmentation, client needs documentation, personas, journey maps, brand guidelines / frameworks, messaging pillars, and messaging matrixes)
  • Collaborate with technical team leads to understand architecture, client and platform requirements as well as ensure final build plans meet project expectations
  • Support the creation of insights to help clients understand program performance and optimization opportunities


The skills and abilities I require are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a field of Research, Social Sciences, or Business Management or equivalent experience in a field of marketing
  • 5+ years of experience in developing marketing strategy, design thinking, multi-channel marketing and enterprise transformation and 3+ years of experience with leading client-facing projects
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building personas, journey maps, go-to-market strategies, messaging matrixes, audience segmentation, user flows, wireframes, presentations and stakeholder reports
  • An understanding of interaction design and information architecture
  • A working knowledge of marketing analytics and associated KPIs including working with media, web, lead and sales data
  • A demonstrated understanding of distribution channels and highly matrixed organizations is a plus


To produce these outcomes, I have decision-making authority over the following:

  • Input into what and how information is presented to a client related to both proposals/recommendations and ongoing performance updates
  • Final strategic approach with client agreement
  • Determining how to interpret strategic approach in activation as a project progresses


Leading indicators of my success are:

  • Client satisfaction with strategic approach
  • Complete and accurate strategy artifacts


Long-term indicators of my success are:

  • Client account growth
  • Developing strong working relationships across service lines to ensure comprehensive strategy development with inputs across service lines
