A role with Strategic Sourcing is a chance to positively impact several key areas of Target’s business. Your input will ensure that Target realizes the expected value from the terms of our agreements that comprise over $15 billion in annual spend toward innovative and competitively priced goods and services. You’ll share and promote best practices across the company while developing deep category expertise and close client relationships. You’ll also collaborate with internal partners who use world-class sourcing tools and processes, build total cost of ownership financial models, deliver operational leadership, and champion supplier engagement in order to optimize leverage for Target.
Primary Function / Principal Duties & Responsibilities
As a Strategic Sourcing Lead, you’ll act as a trusted advisor, independently leading sourcing strategies, negotiations, and category initiatives – consistently delivering on fundamentals and advanced sourcing techniques through the execution of complex and/or ambiguous projects with tailored engagement models that deliver measurable and sustainable value for Target. You’ll own, grow, and proactively pipeline your book of business and will be accountable for driving strategy, execution, and results. You’ll lead cross-functional project teams, shape sourcing approaches, and serve as the primary contact for complex supplier relationships within your portfolio.
You’ll bring a consultant mindset to your work – identifying insights, building influence, and helping business partners make decisions grounded in cost, risk, and operational impact. You’ll collaborate closely with legal, finance, business, and supplier partners to ensure sourcing outcomes are structured, intentional, and forward-looking. You’ll also help define and evolve Target’s sourcing capabilities and best practices by applying emerging skills in automation, market intelligence, and digital tooling, and drive change across your book of business with speed and agility. You identify and effectively manage a variety of conflict solutions.

Local candidates are required to work a minimum of 1 day in office. The team offices out of our Brooklyn Park campus. The return to office is fluid and may increase to more days over time.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
- Own and execute sourcing strategies for a growing book of business, including complex or highly visible categories
- Lead cross-functional teams through project scoping, RFP development, supplier evaluation, and decision-making
- Independently lead supplier negotiations and scenario modeling, incorporating TCO frameworks, risk mitigation, and contractual terms to optimize outcomes and generate results-based scenarios
- Communicate sourcing strategy and recommendations using insights, visuals, and storytelling tailored to the business audience
- Balance business and sourcing needs and working with speed and urgency
- Partner with legal on contracting strategy, analysis, markups, & escalation issues – ensuring terms align with business goals
- Mentor peers and team members (formally or informally), helping grow sourcing capability across the team
- Track and report value delivery across projects and events, ensuring visibility to leadership and finance
- Stay current on market trends, cost drivers, regulatory shifts, and macroeconomic indicators relevant to your space
- Apply advanced use of data and analytics to forecast savings, identify sourcing opportunities, and assess supplier health
- Champion integrity and ethical sourcing practices
About you
- 7-10 years of relevant experience in sourcing, procurement, or business operations
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and/or project delivery
- Proven success influencing business stakeholders and building trust in ambiguous, cross-functional environments
- Experience working with suppliers, legal, and other enterprise partners to structure sourcing agreements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with executive storytelling and presentation delivery
- Familiarity with sourcing and contracting platforms (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Coupa)
- Strong data literacy and analytical skills; able to translate supplier and financial data into business decisions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Strong curiosity, resilience, and comfort with complexity and change
- Experience applying automation, AI, and market intelligence tools to improve sourcing outcomes and supplier insights
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, hybrid, and global team environment, and ability to maintain flexible work schedule around sourcing events
