The Opportunity
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer I to join and lead engineering at Root. As a Staff Engineer, you will be one of the primary technical leaders for the Claims product domain. You will work closely with the software engineers on your team(s) to ship valuable software as well as the broad set of stakeholders to guide the organization in building systems that help us build trust with our customers.

Salary Range: $185,000 - $215,000 (Bonus and LTI Eligible)
How You Will Make an Impact
Partner with Product, Information Security, Data Science, Analytics, and experts in Claims to understand our business and establish a technical strategy for the quarters to come
Identify, plan, and socialize important technical initiatives that increase the effectiveness of our products, systems, and teams
Coach and guide engineers on your team in planning experiments and projects that align with our strategic objectives
Advance the impact of the team through coding and review throughout the development cycle
Lead by example in incident response and orient the team to continuously improve resiliency and observability of our systems
Coordinate with Staff Engineers across the organization to establish and push forward our standards and best practices
What You Will Need to Succeed
7+ years as a software engineer
3+ years leading software teams
Expertise in Ruby on Rails
Expertise with Rails Monoliths and Clear Domains a plus
Expertise with front end technologies (e.g. React) a plus
Proven leadership of projects involving multiple teams across functional domains
Proven leadership of operational excellence and improving the maintainability of legacy systems
Excellent communication skills both with engineering colleagues and senior business leaders
