THE OPPORTUNITY: Staff Software Engineer
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering
LOCATION: Hybrid (NY or LA preferred)
Birdy Grey is looking for an eCommerce focused Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical design, development, and launch of new features on our Shopify ecommerce storefront. This role will be responsible for implementing scalable architecture to support a growing brand. This is a player/coach position where the majority of your time will be spent writing code and a portion of your time will be spent scoping, planning, and strategizing.
Scope Of Responsibilities

  • Design technical solutions to support the launch of new features
  • Enhance existing architecture to scale a growing product assortment
  • Introduce industry best practices, frameworks, and tools
  • Build highly efficient tools that empower end users (site merchandising, planning, operations) to optimize both the consumer experience and internal workflows
  • Work closely with ecommerce, marketing, and data teams to execute enhancements and features
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable accessibility standards, per WCAG 2.1
  • Ensure compliance with all privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, etc)
  • Lead and promote a culture of impeccable documentation across all code bases
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable and reliable architecture and code
  • Identify and mitigate risks throughout development lifecycles and iterative sprints
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for other engineers
  • Collaborate with Director of Engineering on managing technical roadmap
  • Collaborate with Product and Product Design on requirements, feasibility, tradeoffs and Product roadmap

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree Required
Experience / Requirements

  • 8+ years in software engineering
  • Expert level JavaScript, CSS, HTML
  • Experience with Shopify plus and it's ecosystem
  • Expert level knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Remix, Next.js, etc.)
  • Experience with component libraries
  • Experience with multi-site architecture
  • Experience with Liquid
  • Experience with Node, Python or Ruby
  • Experience with build tools (Webpack, Vite, Rollup)
  • Experience working with ERPs and integration engineering
  • Experience with various cloud services & architectures (GCP preferred)
  • Experience building developer tooling and optimizing the teams workflow and efficiency
  • Opinionated on how to build things and skilled in how to best weigh technical and business oriented trade-offs
  • Experience effectively influencing, building trust, and collaborating cross-functionally
  • Hard working and willing to roll sleeves up - no job is too big or too small.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit. You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, fluid environment. You are comfortable with ambiguity and take initiative to lead projects.

New York Candidates only*: Minimum full-time salary range is generally between $100,000 - $160,000 + bonus + benefits. We continually review ranges to address skills, experience and markets. Base salaries are determined during our interview process, by assessing a number of factors that include, but aren't limited to a candidate's experience and skills relative to the scope and responsibilities of the position. *Note: Disclosure as required by NY Law (11-1-22) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired as an employee in New York.
