The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead the design and operation of backend financial systems where accuracy is critical, taking technical ownership from early concept through live production. Serve as a senior technical leader who coaches other engineers, guides design decisions and moves large cross-system projects forward.
What you'll do
- Design and run a double-entry ledger and a next-generation account model built on immutable events and derived balances.
- Own the full flow of money through the platform, including posting and adjustment logic, account ledgers, bank reconciliation and reporting.
- Reconcile several independent sources of financial data and flag discrepancies early.
- Scale idempotent, explainable transaction pipelines to high volumes using reversal semantics rather than editing records.
- Operate critical systems on very large relational tables, handling safe migrations, backfills, monitoring and incident response.
- Raise the standard for observability and operational readiness, including logging, tracing, dashboards, alerting, service level objectives and safe rollouts.
- Coach senior engineers, lead design reviews and give clear, honest feedback.
- Drive large, multi-system projects from first design through delivery and ongoing production support.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- 8+ years of experience building backend systems.
- 3+ years designing and operating financial systems from zero to one.
- Strong Python backend engineering skills.
- Hands-on experience building a double-entry ledger, with solid knowledge of accounting principles, append-only data models, idempotency and reversals.
- Experience in payments, billing, reconciliation, ledgers or accounting systems.
- Proven record as a technical leader who shapes architecture, develops other engineers and influences teams beyond their own.
- Experience shipping money-critical production systems with strong monitoring, tracing, alerting and incident response.
- Comfort with ambiguity and the pace of an early-stage, high-growth startup environment, including frequent deployments.
- Clear communication with operations, customers and cross-functional partners on correctness-critical topics.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
- Genuine enthusiasm for building quality products for the healthcare industry.
Bonus points
- Experience with healthcare revenue cycle management, patient accounting or accounts receivable aging.
- Familiarity with insurance remittance processing.
- Bank reconciliation experience.
