You are passionate, driven, flexible and collaborative
We are a team of big thinkers who are engineering the future of banking
Together we will build tomorrow’s bank today, using world-leading technology and innovation
Do work that matters
We're building tomorrow’s bank today, which means we need creative and diverse engineers to help us redefine what customers expect from a bank. Envisioning new technologies that are still waiting to be invented and reimagining products that support our customers and help build Australia’s future economy.
Our Software team are the brains behind Australia’s number one banking app, Netbank, Cardless Cash, Comm Sec Pocket and Spend Tracker. We go beyond a passion for web and mobile development, creating reliable APIs at a unique scale in Australia. And you could be a part of that journey.

At Market Data Automation, we build and operate the strategic platform that enables the acquisition, validation, transformation, distribution, and governance of market data across the organisation. Our mission is to provide trusted, high-quality market data that powers pricing, risk management, quantitative modelling, regulatory reporting, and business decision-making.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping the technical direction of the platform while remaining hands-on in delivering solutions. You will collaborate with engineers, quants, data specialists, product owners, and business stakeholders to solve complex data and engineering challenges at scale.
You will influence architecture decisions, uplift engineering capability across the squad, and drive the adoption of modern engineering practices that improve platform reliability, scalability, observability, and developer productivity.
We’re interested in hearing from people who
Design and build scalable, resilient, and secure software platforms that process and distribute critical market and business data
Bring strong software engineering and system design expertise, with experience delivering cloud-native, distributed, or event-driven solutions
Demonstrate end-to-end ownership across the SDLC, including architecture, development, testing, CI/CD, observability, cloud infrastructure, and production support
Apply strategic thinking to solve complex technical and business problems while maintaining strong risk, control, and data quality outcomes
Influence technical direction through effective stakeholder engagement, technical leadership, mentoring, and engineering best practices
Champion engineering excellence through automation, AI-assisted development, DevSecOps, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Tech Skills
We use a broad range of technologies, tools, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all, but experience in several of the following areas will help you succeed in this role:
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, design patterns, clean code practices, and automated testing
Proven hands-on development experience, preferably in Python, building scalable and maintainable production systems
Experience designing and delivering cloud-native, distributed, or event-driven architectures
Experience building or integrating data platforms, APIs, data pipelines, and data-intensive applications
Familiarity with modern front-end technologies and frameworks for developing user-facing applications
Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, and engineering automation, with experience using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform, or similar
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerisation, and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Knowledge of observability practices, including monitoring, logging, alerting, and production support
Understanding of secure software development practices and DevSecOps principles
Experience or knowledge of financial markets, market data, risk systems, or quantitative platforms will be highly regarded
