About the roleYou will join PJ Brazil, Nubank’s business-customers unit, in the area we call Enterprises. This group builds solutions for customers who are companies (legal entities), focusing on the everyday operational and bureaucratic tasks that consume their time — such as issuing invoices, paying taxes and automating collections — so they can focus on what actually generates revenue.
As a Staff Software Engineer – PJ, you will work cross-team across multiple squads in Enterprises (around five teams, ~35 people), acting as a senior technical leader and hands-on engineer. You will own reference architectures and guide several teams toward them, while still being close to the code and day-to-day engineering decisions.
The role was originally scoped at IC8 and is now an IC7 opportunity, intentionally designed to give space for growth in scope and impact over time.
You’ll be responsible for- Leading architecture across multiple PJ squads, defining reference architectures and guiding teams in their adoption for products such as collections assistants, tax payers and invoice issuance flows.
- Acting as a cross-team technical leader in the Enterprises area, working with several teams at once rather than a single squad, and influencing how we design systems end-to-end for business customers.
- Staying hands-on in the code, pairing with engineers, reviewing designs and implementations, and helping to solve complex technical problems in our PJ product stack.
- Collaborating closely with product managers and senior stakeholders, especially in PJ, to align technical direction with business strategy and the evolving needs of business customers.
- Helping teams design reliable, observable and maintainable systems for mission-critical business workflows (e.g., collections, tax payments, invoices), ensuring good instrumentation and operability.
- Mentoring senior engineers (IC5/IC6), helping them grow into broader cross-team influence and stronger architectural leadership.
Required
- Solid experience as a Staff-level engineer (IC7 or equivalent), with deep technical expertise and a strong track record of impact.
- Experience designing and evolving complex backend systems and architectures, preferably across multiple squads or domains.
- Proven ability to act as a cross-team technical leader, influencing several teams at once and collaborating with senior stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder-management skills, including experience working with senior product and business leaders, negotiating priorities and driving alignment.
- A hands-on mindset: despite seniority and cross-scope, you still enjoy and regularly engage in technical work (architecture, coding, reviews, debugging).
- Based in Brazil, with full professional fluency in Portuguese; this role is focused on PJ Brazil and day-to-day collaboration happens primarily in Portuguese.

- Experience building products for companies (business customers) — e.g., B2B or SMB tools, billing, invoicing, collections, tax, ERPs, or similar.
