Hi, we're The Browser Company 👋 and we're building a better way to use the internet.
Browsers are unique in that they are one of the only pieces of software that you share with your parents as well as your kids. Which makes sense, they're our doorway to the most important things — through them we socialize with loved ones, work on our passion projects, and explore our curiosities. But on their own, they don’t actually do a whole lot, they’re kind of just there. They don’t help us organize our messy lives or make it easier to compose our ideas. We believe that the browser could do so much more — it can empower and support the amazing things we do on the internet. That’s why we’re building one: a browser that can help us grow, create, and stay curious.
To accomplish this lofty task, we’re building a diverse team of people from different backgrounds and experiences. This isn’t optional, it’s crucial to our mission, as we need a wide range of perspectives to challenge our assumptions and shape our browser through a bold, creative lens. With that in mind, we especially encourage women, people of color, and others from historically marginalized groups to apply.

As a Staff Software Engineer on our AI Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in designing, prototyping, and shipping novel LLM-powered features that redefine how people use the internet. You'll transform ambiguous goals into elegant solutions and set new standards for browser-based AI as we launch Dia.

We’re looking for someone who is product-minded, deeply curious, and excited to build with LLMs. In this role, you’ll help define how we build software in 2025—not through traditional UI or API layers, but through prompts, evals, hill-climbing, and fast feedback loops grounded in real usage. You’ll raise the bar for every AI-powered experience in Dia by building best-in-class Skills, Memory, and evaluation systems, ensuring every feature we ship is faster, smarter, and more reliable for our users.

Overall you will...
  • Lead, architect, and execute LLM-powered features across our products.

  • Collaborate with Design, Membership, Data, and Leadership teams to drive critical projects that increase the utility of Skills. You'll brainstorm and prototype new AI-powered features that help users find and utilize the right Skills at the right moment.

  • Experiment with and integrate the latest ML and AI models, fine-tuning them for specific use cases while balancing quality, speed, and resource constraints.

  • Build and iterate using prompts, evals, and rapid feedback cycles, demonstrating a genuine passion for advancing AI quality and tackling the unique challenges of LLM-driven development.

  • Explore and prototype agentic and computer use capabilities in Dia, enabling cutting-edge browser-based AI experiences.

  • Champion a product-minded approach, ensuring every technical decision is grounded in user impact and business value.

  • Sweat the small stuff to deliver high-craft, industry-leading, interaction-rich user experiences which set the bar for what's possible.

Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience developing high-craft software products, with a background in user-facing product development or having shipped AI features from 0-1.

  • You have hands-on experience building with LLMs, an understanding of how they work, and a genuine curiosity to go deep on the technology.

  • You’re experienced in solving ambiguous problems and have successfully owned complex technical initiatives and projects that have had an outsized impact on a business.

  • You’re pragmatic, motivated by nebulous problems, and excited to work in a startup environment with quick product validation cycles.

  • Most of our team is based in North American time zones and require that folks have 4+ hours of overlap time with team members in Eastern Time Zone.

  • You resonate with our company values and can continue to scale your team with these in mind

Compensation and Benefits
  • Our total compensation package for full-time employees includes base salary, equity, and benefits. The annual salary range for this role is $225,000-275,000 USD. The actual salary offered will vary based on experience level and interview performance.

  • Benefits: We also offer a wide range of perks and benefits designed to support you, your family and to help you engage with your local community. To learn more, visit go.atlassian.com/perksandbenefits.

What We Do

The Browser Company of New York is a group of friendly humans working to make the internet feel more like home. But how?

The web browser is one of the most important tools we use — not just on our computers, but in our lives. The world has changed in the past 15 years, but our web browsers look and behave pretty much the same. We think it’s time to push the web browser forward again, which is why we built Arc — a browser that’s not just faster, but also more personal, focused, creative… and maybe even more fun.

If this is as exciting for you as it is for us, don't hesitate to say hello! We're always looking for great people to join our mission.
