As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to design, build and evolve secure, scalable and reliable platform capabilities, enabling engineering and data teams to deliver high-quality outcomes at pace

 

What you’ll do

  • Lead and mentor engineers, setting best practices for full stack engineering and modern platform development

  • Provide technical leadership and direction across platform engineering initiatives, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, reliable and fit for purpose

  • Support the development of platform strategy, roadmap, architecture and design for products and services

  • Design, build and evolve modern platform capabilities that enable engineering and data teams to deliver safely and at pace

  • Establish and promote engineering standards, reusable patterns, guardrails and golden paths for consistent platform delivery

  • Drive automation-first practices across provisioning, deployment, monitoring and lifecycle management of platform components.

  • Improve developer experience through self-service capabilities, reusable templates, standardised pipelines and simplified delivery patterns

  • Partner with product owners, architecture, security, risk, governance, data and engineering teams to ensure platform solutions meet enterprise standards

  • Identify and remediate technical debt, risks and issues across platform services through transparent planning and prioritisation

  • Drive platform observability, reliability, performance engineering and cost optimisation

  • Apply a strong risk mindset by proactively identifying, discussing and acting on current and future risks

What we’re looking for

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;

  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms, preferably using Airflow, DBT, Snowflake, and AWS, including security, access controls, performance optimization, workload management and cost governance

  • Experience with transformation frameworks, including modular data modelling, testing, documentation, lineage and CI/CD integration

  • Experience with batch and near real-time data processing patterns across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, quality, observability and consumption

  • Strong capability with modern engineering practices including automation, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, reliability engineering and secure-by-design delivery using tools such as Github Actions and Terraform

  • Ability to build solutions that are fit for purpose, reliable, scalable, secure, governed and easy to operate

  • Understanding of release, change management and risk management processes in an enterprise environment

  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills, with experience in financial services preferred but not essential

Skills Required
