Job Title: Staff Platform Engineer
Location: Manyata Tech Park, Bangalore

We’re a team of talented technology and banking operations experts, working together to deliver cutting-edge, innovative and exceptional experiences for our customers. 

Chief Operations Office is the heartbeat of the bank, where we reimagine banking operations and customer excellence. 

We work across operational disciplines, including the financial crime lifecycle, which includes investigations, payment monitoring and customer due diligence.  With a strong foundation in place, our footprint in India also includes Business, Institutional and Market Operations to strengthen support for Business Banking and Institutional clients. Our Retail Operations team oversees customer experiences in both secured and unsecured product categories, managing the entire loan process from credit decisioning to settlement for CBA and Bankwest brands.

As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to design, build and evolve secure, scalable and reliable platform capabilities, enabling engineering and data teams to deliver high-quality outcomes at pace.

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction across platform engineering initiatives, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, reliable and fit for purpose.  

  • Support the development of platform strategy, roadmap, architecture and design for products and services within the squad.  

  • Design, build and evolve modern platform capabilities that enable engineering and data teams to deliver safely and at pace.  

  • Establish and promote engineering standards, reusable patterns, guardrails and paved paths for consistent platform delivery.  

  • Drive automation-first practices across provisioning, deployment, monitoring and lifecycle management of platform components.  

  • Improve developer experience through self-service capabilities, reusable templates, standardised pipelines and simplified delivery patterns.  

  • Partner with product owners, architecture, security, risk, governance, data and engineering teams to ensure platform solutions meet enterprise standards.  

  • Identify and remediate technical debt, risks and issues across platform services through transparent planning and prioritisation.  

  • Drive platform observability, reliability, performance engineering and cost optimisation. 

  • Apply a strong risk mindset by proactively identifying, discussing and acting on current and future risks. 

Essential skills:

  • Minimum 13+ years of experience across platform engineering, data platform engineering, cloud engineering, DevOps, data engineering or related technology roles. 

  • Strong hands-on experience designing, building and operating enterprise-grade platforms in complex technology environments.  

  • Experience with modern cloud data platforms, preferably Snowflake, including security, access controls, performance optimization, workload management and cost governance.  

  • Experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks, including modular data modelling, testing, documentation, lineage and CI/CD integration.  

  • Good understanding of data engineering patterns across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, quality, observability and consumption.  

  • Experience with batch and near real-time data processing patterns.  

  • Exposure to Kafka, event streaming or event-driven architecture is highly desirable.  

  • Strong capability with modern engineering practices including automation, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, reliability engineering and secure-by-design delivery.  

  • Experience with source control systems such as Git 

  • Experience with build, deployment and automation tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, GitHub Actions, Ansible or equivalent.  

  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, including compute, storage, networking, IAM, monitoring and platform automation.  

  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or equivalent.  

  • Experience with monitoring, logging and observability tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, CloudWatch or equivalent.  

  • Ability to build solutions that are fit for purpose, reliable, scalable, secure, governed and easy to operate.  

  • Understanding of release, change management and risk management processes in an enterprise environment.  

  • Strong problem-solving skills with open thinking to generate and support better ways of working.  

  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.  

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders, engineers, data teams and governance stakeholders.  

Education Qualification:  Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology and related fields.
