Staff Mechanical Engineer (P4) – Advanced Robotics
Analog Garage
At the Analog Garage, we invent what’s next. We are an innovation engine where small, highly interdisciplinary teams tackle hard problems, rapidly prototype novel technologies, and translate breakthrough ideas into real-world impact.
If problem‑solving through teamwork is in your DNA—and you’re excited by inventing new electromechanical systems that enable the future of robotics—this could be the perfect role for you. Our Advanced Robotics team is focused on creating foundational technologies that help our customers build smarter, more capable robotic systems that transform how work gets done.
Role Overview
As a Staff Mechanical Engineer in the Analog Garage, you will develop innovative hardware designs to enable our customers to build and deliver robotics solutions to their own problems or those of their customers. The ideal candidate has experience developing new robots and subsystems. You will work closely with experts in electronics, sensing, actuation, controls, and software to take concepts from early exploration through functional prototypes—and, in some cases, into productization paths for ADI customers.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Robotics Innovation.

- Collaborate with a highly interdisciplinary team to develop robotic systems and subsystems from concept through working prototype
- Lead mechanical design activities including concept development, detailed design, tolerance analysis, and hands‑on prototyping
- Evaluate and drive design tradeoffs across performance, cost, manufacturability, reliability, and scalability (DFx)
- Build, test, and iterate proof‑of‑concept hardware to validate mechanical architectures and system-level assumptions
- Contribute to system integration, test planning, and experimental characterization of robotic platforms
- Communicate design intent, results, and tradeoffs clearly through sketches, CAD, documentation, and reviews
- Support transition of successful prototypes toward customer enablement, demonstrations, or downstream product teams
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related field, with 5+ years of relevant industry or research experience
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, materials properties, material selection, and manufacturing processes
- Hands‑on experience crafting proof-of-concept models and mechanical or electromechanical prototypes
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Onshape, or equivalent, including best practices for part design, assemblies, and tolerance specification
- Experience applying Design for X principles (e.g., cost, manufacturability, testability, reliability)
- Solid understanding of hardware development principles and the ability to apply theory to real‑world product design
- Experience working in fast‑paced, agile and highly cross‑functional organization.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly using clear, simple language and visuals
- Experience with full product lifecycle and proficiency at completing tasks to meet milestones
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and effective communication is a must.
- Willingness to support domestic and international travel as required
