The Industrial Power Systems group is seeking a motivated, technology focused, experienced power applications engineer to be part of our growing product development team. Within this role the Applications Engineer may manage multiple projects and priorities supporting power products including protection, battery charging and isolated power controller products. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving and communications capabilities, providing development and technical support with the ability to both self-lead and work within a team as required. 

The product Applications Engineer role includes creating reference designs to promote the company’s products, instructs and supports customers working on products to guarantee the success of the customer’s system. This includes supporting the customers through the entire design process with technical expertise, guidance, debug, and design support and creating development tools, reference designs and documentation as needed. 

In addition, part of the role is to develop and execute on system-level validation testing at both the pre-silicon and post-silicon phases of product development. 

Description of Job/ Duties and Responsibilities: 

In the role of Senior Applications Engineer, your immediate responsibilities include: 

  • Working independently on application circuits of power products. 

  • Support and train Field Applications Engineers on new and existing power management products. 

  • Design, bench test and debugging of electronic circuits including troubleshooting support throughout the product lifecycle. 

  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot technical issues in support of FAE’s and customers with new and existing products. 

  • Create design-in support tools such as evaluation boards, reference designs, demo systems and technology literature including application notes and trade press articles. 

  • Performing thorough new product evaluations and test plans. 

  • Developing design and simulation models, tools, and circuits such as with LTspice. 

  • Create technical writing, presentations, and trainings. 

 

Required Skills: 

  • Ability to work independently on application circuits and customer designs. 

  • Must be familiar with applications of power supply and protection devices, circuit simulation and circuit testing. 

  • Require excellent communication and organisation skills with ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.  

  • Experience with schematic capture, PCB design and simulation tools. 

  • Must have experience in board layout, debug, optimization, and power calculations.  

  • Experience in multiple IC developments that have been brought to market. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly with applications, marketing, field sales engineers, and customers. 

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking skills and time management skills. 

  • Play an active role within development teams acting as a customer advocate to help ensure teams make informed decisions. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Preferred Qualifications: Honours Degree in Electrical/Electronic, Electronic & Computer Engineering or similar  

  • 7+ years plus semiconductor industry experience with a power background an advantage. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  •  Good understanding of the power applications and key circuit topologies.
