Staff DevOps Engineer

Full time. Remote.

At SamCart, we are not just coders – we are craftsmen. We are professionals who take pride in, and hold ourselves accountable for, the applications that we build. We practice discipline in our approach, demanding of ourselves highly performant, thoroughly tested, and exquisitely designed code. We value honest communication, close collaboration, and lifelong continuous learning. We are deeply empathetic to the impact our software has on the lives of our customers; and we readily accept that great responsibility with humility, determination, and skill.

SamCart is looking for a collaborative, conscientious, and experienced Staff DevOps Engineer to join our team. In this role you will refine, implement, and educate on our practices across SamCart’s cloud infrastructure in AWS and GCP, considering application performance and scalability, disaster recovery, data management, and security. You will be responsible for maintaining application uptime, 24x7 on-call rotation, infrastructure-as-code, and collaboration with our engineering teams as we consolidate our infrastructure in AWS. Finally, you will join our elite team of high-caliber engineers, product managers and designers to build a world-class ecommerce engine to power the future of SamCart and revolutionize commerce on the Internet.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and operate cloud-based infrastructure built around Docker and Kubernetes in AWS, focusing on infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, and CI/CD methodologies.
  • Support the ongoing development of a multi-tenant web application as we simplify our microservices architecture.
  • Perform a full spectrum of DevOps functions, including system administration, configuration management, data engineering, performance and security monitoring, disaster recovery, and 24x7 support.
  • Ensure efficiency and predictability of deployments and upgrades.
  • Lead the final steps of our migrations from GCP to AWS and from EC2 into Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with AWS and GCP technical account managers, solutions architects, and consulting partners.

Qualifications

  • Expert in Amazon Web Services, leveraging cloud services to build performant, secure, highly available multi-region web applications.
  • Mastery of advanced tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, SOPS, etc.)
  • High proficiency with cloud-hosted continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines and tools (i.e. GitHub Actions, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, GitLab CI, CircleCI, etc.)
  • Fluency in Python and modern scripting languages (PHP, TypeScript, etc.)
  • Experience managing data pipelines
  • At least 5 years of professional experience building and supporting cloud infrastructure in AWS.
  • Familiarity with GCP sufficient to support seamless service migration.
