About Us
Are you ready to build the future of supply chain? At Gather AI, we're not just creating software; we're pioneering a new era of warehouse intelligence. We've developed a groundbreaking, vision-powered platform that uses autonomous drones and existing equipment to capture real-time data, completely digitizing workflows that have historically been manual and error-prone. This means facilities operate smarter, safer, and more efficiently, ultimately redefining "on-time, in full" delivery. If you're looking for an opportunity to contribute to truly transformative technology and make a significant impact in a vital industry, Gather AI is the place for you. We're leading the charge in the rapidly evolving robotics industry, and we invite you to join us in reshaping the global supply chain, one intelligent warehouse at a time.
About the Team
Gather AI is at the forefront of Physical AI for intralogistics — using autonomous drones and computer vision to deliver real-time insights that digitize warehouse operations and redefine supply chain efficiency. Our interdisciplinary engineering teams are building the data and systems foundations that power intelligent, scalable solutions used across global operations.
About the Role
Reporting to the engineering leadership team, the Staff Database Engineer will own the evolution of our data layer from growth-optimized foundations to enterprise-grade reliability and performance. You will define replication, scaling, latency, and governance strategies while serving as the primary authority for database operational excellence. In this role, you will shape database engineering practices for a mission-critical system, directly impacting the reliability and performance of a platform powering Physical AI in warehouse operations.
You’ll work on systems supporting real-time, AI-ready data access at scale and join a high-growth, technology-driven team solving complex infrastructure challenges—making a visible, lasting impact on platform stability, product scalability, and AI-driven workloads.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design, optimization, and scaling of relational and distributed databases to meet uptime, performance, and latency goals
- Define and implement replication, multi-region read/write strategies, backup/HA, and disaster recovery
- Establish governance, compliance (ISO/SOC2), and operational standards for data infrastructure
- Drive database performance tuning, capacity planning, and lifecycle automation
- Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to ensure data systems meet SLAs and support AI/ML workloads
- Provide architectural leadership on PostgreSQL and MongoDB systems and scaling approaches
What You’ll Need
- 8+ years designing and operating production-grade relational databases, with deep PostgreSQL expertise
- Ownership of database architecture, replication, scaling, indexing, and performance strategy across PostgreSQL and MongoDB
- Proven experience operating high-availability, multi-region, multi-tenant SLA-backed production systems
- Advanced SQL and query optimization expertise and automation capability
- Experience defining governance, compliance, and operational standards for enterprise-grade data platforms
Nice to Have
- Experience designing systems for dynamic, AI-driven queries without compromising transactional performance
- Familiarity with CDC pipelines, event streaming, and data lifecycle strategies
Skills Required
- 6-8+ years operating production relational databases
- Deep PostgreSQL expertise (replication, indexing, tuning, upgrades)
- Expert-level SQL and execution plan analysis
- Strong UNIX systems knowledge
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred)
- Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash or similar)
- Experience troubleshooting at OS and database boundary
- Experience supporting SLA-backed production systems
- Multi-tenant database design experience
- Backup, HA, and disaster recovery implementation experience
- Experience in ISO/SOC2 or compliance-aware environments
- Cloud-native database operations (Azure preferred)
- Experience designing multi-region read/write strategies
- MongoDB deep performance tuning
- Data lifecycle automation (archiving, pruning, tiering)
- CDC pipelines or event streaming familiarity
- Experience supporting AI/ML workloads
- Experience formalizing database governance practices
- Architect and optimize databases to support LLM-generated and dynamically composed queries without compromising transactional performance
