Perry Ellis International is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Retail Accounting Team. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of ecommerce sales, reconciling payment platforms, and supporting month-end close activities. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and proficient in advanced Microsoft Excel.
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for daily sales audits, credit card reconciliations, and month-end journal entries. Candidates with experience in NetSuite (ERP) and Shopify (ecommerce platform) will be strongly preferred, as our ecommerce operations are managed through these systems. Familiarity with ecommerce payment processors such as Shopify POS is a plus. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, particularly during month-end close.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform daily sales audits for ecommerce transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and input journal entries, including accruals and adjustments.
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts, ensuring proper classification of revenues and expenses.
- Conduct credit card and third-party payment reconciliations for online sales transactions.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including variance analysis and reporting.
- Participate in warehouse inventory reviews and ecommerce-related inventory reconciliations.
- Collaborate with Retail Operations, Ecommerce, and IT teams to improve processes and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in external and internal audits, providing documentation and analysis as required.
- Contribute to special projects, process improvements, and financial analysis as needed.
SKILLS:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIFS, INDEX-MATCH; Macros preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Experience with NetSuite (ERP) and Shopify (ecommerce platform) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ecommerce payment processors (e.g., Shopify POS) is a plus.
- Strong team player mindset, willing to assist colleagues and contribute to process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in accounting.
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions is required.
- Experience in ecommerce accounting and payment reconciliation is preferred.
- Familiarity with NetSuite and Shopify is strongly desired.
