The Role

Flock Freight is a FreightTech company that uses patented technology to move freight more efficiently, reliably, and sustainably. Shipments stay safe in a single truck, driven by a single driver, all the way to their destination allowing shippers to only pay for the space they need and enabling carriers to earn more from every linear foot of capacity — all while slashing carbon emissions by up to 40% compared to traditional shipping methods.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Accountant with a specialty in Workforce Management to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate payroll processing, optimizing workforce management strategies, and driving operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess extensive payroll accounting expertise, a keen understanding of workforce management systems, experience managing offshore contractors, and exceptional analytical skills to support our growing organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Payroll Processing and Compliance:
    • Oversee and manage end-to-end payroll processing ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
    • Verify and reconcile payroll data, including salaries, benefits, taxes, and deductions
    • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of payroll tax returns
    • Review and correct timesheets for hourly employees daily
    • Connect with managers of hourly employees to ensure timesheet change requests, PTO requests, and timesheet approvals are completed in a timely manner
  2. Payroll Reconciliations:
    • Implement and maintain workforce management systems to optimize employee scheduling, time tracking, and labor costs, across both our employees and off-shore contractor workforce
    • Analyze workforce data to provide insights and recommendations for process improvements
    • Collaborate with People team and department managers to align workforce management strategies with business objectives
  3. Accounting and Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and review general ledger entries related to payroll.
    • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including account reconciliations and financial reporting
    • Ability to calculate certain commissionable or variable compensation plans on a monthly basis
    • Create and distribute monthly detailed commission statements outlining their performance and corresponding commission payout
    • Support internal and external audits related to payroll and workforce management
  4. System Utilization and Optimization:
    • Utilize payroll and workforce management software (e.g., UKG, Insightful) efficiently
    • Identify and implement system enhancements for increased efficiency and accuracy
    • Provide training and support to staff on payroll and workforce management systems and procedures
  5. Regulatory Compliance and Auditing:
    • Ensure compliance with all payroll-related regulations and company policies.
    • Prepare and support periodic audits to ensure adherence to standards and accurate reporting
    • Reconcile contractor resource billing with reported hours 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll accounting, with significant experience in workforce management
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in payroll and workforce management in UKG
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on team collaboration
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and integrity in financial reporting
  • In office 3 days a week in Encinitas, CA office

The expected on-target earnings range for this position is $68,000.00 - $90,000 per year. This range reflects typical earning potential in this role. When determining an offer, we take into account a variety of factors that are important in making compensation decisions including, but not limited, to: skill sets; experience and tenure; education and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate is based on market data. Salary bands may, in some circumstances, be adjusted to a different geographic area depending on the candidate's position and location.

Our policy is that we target candidates local to one of Flock Freight’s headquarters locations (San Diego and Chicago).
