Forge is based in Columbus, Ohio, in a 200,000 square foot facility known affectionately by team members as, the Hearth. The Hearth, is a custom-designed cGMP facility dedicated to AAV manufacturing and hosts scalable, end-to-end manufacturing services.
About The Role
We are currently seeking an on-site Staff Accountant to join the Forge Biologics team. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of how to operate within the day-to-day activities of accounting, including accounts payable processes, general ledger journal entries, month-end closing activities, and inventory/cost accounting. The Staff Accountant will help to ensure the internal accounting processes are in line with the overall goals of the company. This position requires someone who readily adapts to change, has experience with manufacturing operations, and is comfortable in a high growth environment. The ideal candidate will have ambitions to learn, grow, and develop within the accounting / finance department.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with maintaining supplier master file information such as W9's and ACH payment information.
- Code invoices to appropriate fixed asset or expense GL account.
- Verify the accuracy of vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursements.
- Assist with all audits, SOX reviews, technical accounting memos, and compliance issues.
- Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary for inventory and cost of goods, and assist with global financial reporting.
- Creating month-end accruals and assisting with monthly close.
- Analyze Work Order Variance, Direct Labor Variance, Material Usage Variance, Material Price Variance.
- Assist with establishing standard overhead and labor rates regularly.
- Ensure accuracy of monthly Sales and COGS in the P&L.
- Assist with fixed asset inventory, reconciliation, and processing.
- Ensure fixed assets approvals and documentation are maintained.
- Assist with implementation of internal controls.
- Analyze and maintain inventory costs and research variances.
- Assist with the review and reconcile the perpetual inventory to the general ledger monthly.
- Support physical inventory, cycle counts, inventory reconciliations and roll forwards as needed.
- Assist with the further deployment and implementation of NetSuite.
- Other duties as assigned by the Company Controller.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in an accounting function in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in cost accounting, including analyzing product costs, manufacturing variances, and overhead allocations to support financial accuracy and decision-making.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Experience working with Microsoft Excel; PowerBI, Smartsheets, Netsuite and/or Mineral Tree is a plus.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to navigate and make decisions in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments; taking complex problems and breaking them down to create feasible solutions.
- Ability to work onsite (Columbus, Ohio), 4 days/week on average.
- CPA and/or MBA or in progress, is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position works in a typical office environment where the physical work demands will vary depending on the specific tasks and duties required of the job. This is largely a sedentary role; persons holding office positions are generally subject to inside environmental conditions having the lighting, temperature, and noise of an open floor-plan office environment. Regularly operate a computer and other office equipment. Regularly communicate with others in person, over the phone, and electronically. Must be able to move and/or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
