CAP Northwest is looking for a Staff Accountant with nonprofit accounting experience who is detail-oriented, works well independently, and cares about the communities we serve. You'll keep our general ledger accurate, help close the books each month, and prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for audits and financial statements

 

This is a Full-Time role working at our Davis St. location in the Old Town area of Portland. The schedule for this role is an in office Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. There is an optional hybrid with three days minimum on office two days working from home.  

 

The yearly salary for this position is $67,000.00- $72,000.00 depending on experience.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or a related field and two years of work experience, OR five years of experience working as a full-cycle accountant.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and FASB accounting standards.
  • Experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements.
  • Strong accounting system experience, including posting journal entries, and reconciling GL and balance sheet accounts.
  • Intermediate Excel skills (e.g. use of pivot tables, lookup functions, SUMIF, et al).
  • Follows internal controls and documents work so others can follow it.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Cultivates and maintains professional relationships across a multicultural spectrum of organizations and professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and shift priorities as needed.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting, including net assets with and without donor restrictions, is preferred.

 

 

What You’ll Do

  • Participates in month-end and year-end close, including preparing entries and supporting schedules by deadline.
  • Helps maintain the general ledger and essential accounting records and files.
  • Prepares journal entries in the general ledger and subsidiary accounts in accordance with generally accepted standards (GAAP) and CAP policy.
  • Maintains allocation schedules.
  • Prepares/records bank deposits.
  • Records Accounts Receivable transactions and prepares aging reports.
  • Records contribution transactions and reconciles contribution records with the Development team’s records.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts (including bank accounts) monthly.
  • Performs complex and varied financial transactions.
  • Serves as back-up for Accounts Payable and Payroll processes.
  • Assists Finance leadership in preparing cash flow estimates and developing the annual budget.
