Position Overview and Responsibilities
At Sentral, we're building a team of people-first individuals who thrive on going above and beyond. This Staff Accountant role supports a complex, two-property portfolio and works hand-in-hand with both the on-site property team and the corporate accounting team across all accounting functions — from general ledger close through property-level reporting. Yardi experience is essential, as this person will be expected to work confidently in the system from day one. This role reports to the Senior Accountant overseeing this portfolio.
The ideal candidate brings an accounting, customer-service, and reporting skill set, along with a strong desire to be part of a unique, rapidly growing company. Success in this role calls for a growth mindset, an entrepreneurial drive, and a high tolerance for uncertainty. Candidates should be highly organized, comfortable taking a roll-up-the-sleeves approach, and able to demonstrate a track record of strong performance.
- Prepare and assist with the review of monthly financial statements across a complex two-property portfolio.
- Own the monthly general ledger close, account analysis, bank reconciliation review, journal entries, and related research.
- Serve as a hands-on accounting resource to both the on-site property team and the corporate accounting team, supporting all accounting functions across the portfolio.
- Research and respond to Property Managers' questions regarding month-end financials.
- Train Community team members on accounting and financial systems and processes.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable (AP/AR).
- Reconcile hospitality operations, including reservations, check-in/check-out activity, and cash received.
- Assist with quarterly and annual external audits as needed.
- Prepare external and internal property-level reporting.
- Record monthly adjusting and accrual entries.
- Support the Senior Accountant with additional tasks and special projects.
- Assist with monthly financial statement analysis in accordance with GAAP, including variance reporting.
- Help implement and refine accounting policies and procedures.
- Partner directly with auditors, attorneys, and lenders as needed.
- Continuously improve processes based on data-driven feedback loops.
Skills and Experience
- Yardi experience required — this role supports a complex, multi-property portfolio, and Yardi proficiency is essential from day one.
- 2+ years of experience on a real estate accounting team.
- Accounting or finance degree, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and software quickly.
- Experience implementing and optimizing accounting processes.
- Experience training property-level teams on accounting processes.
- Strong operational and customer-service skills, with high initiative and the ability to problem-solve and work independently.
- Comfortable splitting time and priorities between an on-site property team and the corporate accounting team.
- REIT experience preferred.
