The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and assisting with daily accounting operations, and month-end closing. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with accounting principles and internal policies, while supporting the overall financial health of the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Prepare and post corporate & ownership level journal entries.
  • Review employee reimbursements and expense reports for compliance with company policy.
  • Process corporate invoices in AP platform.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Assist the tax preparers in completing annual tax returns.
  • Maintain and oversee listing of 1099 vendors and file forms by the January deadline.
  • Ensure accounting duties are cross-trained and properly covered during each other’s absences.
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to resolve discrepancies or accounting issues.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QualificationsREQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that they are able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • At least one year of related experience required, public experience a plus.
  • CPA or MBA preferred but not required.
