Title: Staff Accountant -Nonprofit

Job Summary
The Staff Accountant assists the Controller and CFO in managing the organization’s financial accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, grant cost and allocation accounting, payroll oversight, and audit support. This role ensures compliance with organizational accounting policies, grant requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Perform month-end close activities, including preparation and review of financial statements prior to grant and fund billing
- Prepare monthly journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Reconcile general bank accounts and payroll bank accounts on a monthly basis
- Maintain and reconcile monthly general ledger accounts with a high degree of accuracy
Grant & Fund Accounting
- Assist Controller/CFO with development and monitoring of grant and program budgets
- Track, verify, and ensure grant and fund billings are accurate and submitted by required deadlines
- Prepare management reports and fund status updates to support grant billing and financial decision-making
Payroll Oversight
- Oversee payroll department functions to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
- Verify payroll transactions and resolve discrepancies
- Determine and maintain master salary allocation spreadsheets and related accounting entries
Accounts Payable
- Verify accounts payable transactions and make necessary corrections
- Maintain and update AP allocations to ensure proper expense distribution across funds and grants
Audit & Compliance
- Assist Controller/CFO with annual fiscal, federal, and grant-related audits
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls
Other Responsibilities
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO

Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience; nonprofit accounting experience preferred
- Coursework or practical experience in accounting principles and bookkeeping
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Experience with MIP Cloud and other accounting software preferred
- Ability to use a ten-key calculator by touch
