Summary

City Electric Supply (CES) is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with exceptional Excel skills to support core accounting functions and financial reporting. This role is highly data-driven and ideal for someone who enjoys working with large datasets, building spreadsheets, and improving processes through automation and analysis. This position offers exposure to analytical accounting work, opportunities to enhance reporting processes, and visibility to accounting leadership, providing a strong foundation for career growth in accounting or financial analysis.


Essential Job Functions 

  • Prepare and post journal entries; maintain accurate general ledger records.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end account reconciliations.
  • Analyze financial data using advanced Excel models and formulas.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve complex Excel spreadsheets for reporting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Use pivot tables, XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, SUMIFS, nested formulas, and conditional formatting daily.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for audits and internal reviews.
  • Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement through data analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support ad hoc financial and operational analysis projects.
Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1–4 years of accounting or finance experience (public or corporate).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, etc.).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including pivot tables and pivot charts, complex formulas and functions, large data set management, data validation and error checking, and spreadsheet automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Experience automating reports or improving Excel-based workflows (preferred).
  • Exposure to Power Query, Power Pivot, or VBA (a plus, not required).

Physical Demands
