Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Senior Technical Editor will be instrumental in implementing content strategy and operations to drive a unifying voice across disparate content-producing teams. This team member will work closely with the teams across Sonatus to produce and edit content for user interfaces, user documentation, error messages, and custom content projects. This role requires strong project management and organizational skills, an understanding of the technology industry, and a passion for delivering accurate, user-focused content.


This role is a contract position for 30 hours per week. Sonatus is based in Sunnyvale, CA, and offers a hybrid work schedule with 2-3 in-office days generally.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with marketing, engineering, and user experience to deliver unified content and design standards.
  • Engaging with the product management team, user experience designers, and engineers to review technical documentation, user interface designs, and user interface error messages.
  • Creating and maintaining design and content style guides. 
  • Enforcing brand voice, style, and standards across multiple channels and content types.
  • Working closely with technical writers, user experience designers, and engineers to review technical documentation, user interface designs, and error messages.
  • Defining and implementing the content strategy for technical documentation.
  • Creating and editing content that team members submit.
  • Working within the editorial budget.
  • Prioritizing work and driving the content deliverable schedule to completion.
  • Creating templates, defining standards, and developing guidelines for technical documentation. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • 8+ years of experience as an editor–preferably in the technology industry. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing content standards and maintaining a style guide.
  • Experience writing and editing content for the technology industry.
  • Experience writing and editing for diverse audiences (localization and translation).
  • A proven track record with implementing content standards and strategies.
  • Experience with structured authoring and content reuse. 
  • An ability to maintain the highest standards of editorial quality, accuracy, and style.
  • Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), digital publishing tools, and Google Workspace.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Technical writing experience.
  • Automotive or networking industry experience.
