As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with key cross-functional stakeholders across Customer Engagement, Pricing, Access & Evidence Strategy, External Affairs, and Commercial Squads. Together, you will shape high-impact contracting and access solutions in a dynamic healthcare landscape.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Strategy Manager, you will be responsible for leading the development of access and contracting strategy recommendations across Genentech’s portfolio of products for key customers within the payer, pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), and specialty pharmacy segment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead access and contracting strategies from concept to execution to maximize patient access and protect Genentech’s profitability across key products and customer accounts.

  • Serve as a critical liaison between Customer Engagement Account Teams, Pricing, Contracting, and Distribution (PCD) leads, Legal, and Squad Business Partners to align strategy with Brand and Therapeutic Area priorities.

  • Navigate ambiguity to lead high-impact, cross-portfolio initiatives for emerging customer types, new segments, or therapeutic areas requiring innovative access approaches.

  • Provide analytical rigor, thought partnership, and negotiation strategies to account teams by anticipating customer needs, clarifying strategic rationale, and shaping customer-facing engagements.

  • Synthesize contract performance insights and key market trends (e.g., policy reform, industry shifts) to inform executive decision-making and influence broader product-level contracting strategies.

  • Partner with Customer Engagement leadership and cross-functional teams to upskill organizational market access knowledge and drive collaborative strategic account planning.

While the primary location for this role is South San Francisco, CA, this is a full-time remote-eligible position. Candidates based remotely throughout the U.S. will be fully considered.

Who You Are
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (MBA or advanced degree preferred).

  • Industry Experience: 5+ years of relevant work experience in the pharmaceutical industry (e.g., payer/contracting strategy, account management, consulting, market analysis, health economics, distribution strategy, or managed care finance).

  • Domain Expertise: 5+ years of experience within a U.S. Market Access function, with a deep understanding of pricing, contracting, distribution, policy strategies, and reimbursement environments across multiple therapeutic areas.

  • Customer Segment Knowledge: Expert understanding of managed care dynamics and direct experience (or deep subject matter expertise) within the payer, PBM, and specialty pharmacy segment.

  • Strategic & Analytical Mindset: Strong commercial strategist with the analytical dexterity to leverage data, identify emerging trends, mitigate risks, and proactively solve complex problems.

  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to influence without authority, collaborate effectively across matrixed teams, and provide strategic guidance to senior leadership.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to flex styles to resonate with, present to, and engage diverse internal and external audiences.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $161,000 - $299,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed in this link.

*If remote, incremental travel estimated at 25% may be expected to facilitate cross-functional relationship development and stakeholder engagement, and must be available to travel on short notice for on-site support. Note that for some segments, preference will be given to home office candidates.
