Your Role at Baxter

As Senior Software Engineer / Software Architect, you will provide hands-on technical leadership for critical healthcare product platforms in regulated environments, setting strategic technology direction while contributing directly to software development, modernization, incident resolution, and continual service improvement. You will design and deliver secure, reliable, maintainable software, guide engineers, govern technical decisions, and support production services. Working across architecture, engineering, delivery, quality, validation, infrastructure, security, and product teams, you will enable frequent value delivery while maintaining appropriate GxP, risk-management, and change-control practices.

What you'll be doing:

  • Mentor engineers and promote ownership, accountability, continuous learning, and engineering excellence, including code quality and maintainability.
  • Establish and apply development standards, coding guidelines, architectural principles, secure development practices, and technical governance; lead architecture, design, and code reviews.
  • Partner with Product, Quality, Validation, Infrastructure, Security, and business stakeholders to plan, estimate, prioritize, and deliver compliant releases from concept through production.
  • Support global business-critical applications by leading complex troubleshooting, incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation, and by driving resilience improvements, observability, monitoring, performance optimization, and continual service improvement.
  • Ensure development and release activities meet applicable GxP, quality, security, and validation expectations, including governance, change control, risk management, and audit and inspection readiness.
  • Use and promote AI-assisted engineering responsibly to improve development, code review, documentation, analysis, testing, and modernization, while validating outputs and applying appropriate governance and human oversight.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, a related discipline, or country equivalent is preferred; 12+ years equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.
  • Advanced practical knowledge of software engineering, object-oriented design, design patterns, application architecture, and secure software development lifecycle practices.
  • Strong commercial experience with C#/.NET, PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), modern web technologies, REST APIs, SQL, and relational database design.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting web applications and distributed systems, including ASP.NET solutions, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS front ends, authentication and identity solutions, and API integrations.
  • Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services, cloud-native design concepts, infrastructure and application hosting models, monitoring and observability, CI/CD, DevOps principles, and cloud security controls.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, influence technical direction, communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, resolve complex problems, and make pragmatic decisions that balance immediate delivery with long-term sustainability.
  • Experience leading technical improvement and supporting critical production applications throughout the delivery lifecycle, within structured governance, risk, release, and change-management processes.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted software development tools responsibly, including assessing output quality, recognizing limitations, and protecting sensitive information
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity and competing priorities, collaborating across functions with a high level of accountability and ownership.
  • Significant experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead, Software Architect, or comparable role delivering complex enterprise software across multiple technologies and architectural patterns.
  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, medical technology, or another regulated industry, including knowledge of GxP, computerized system validation, software validation, quality management, and regulated change control, is preferred.
  • Experience with global healthcare platforms, cloud modernization, or technical governance forums such as architecture review boards or technical councils is a plus.
