Summary Generated by Built In

At F5, we strive to bring a better digital world to life. Our teams empower organizations across the globe to create, secure, and run applications that enhance how we experience our evolving digital world. We are passionate about cybersecurity, from protecting consumers from fraud to enabling companies to focus on innovation.

Everything we do centers around people. That means we obsess over how to make the lives of our customers, and their customers, better. And it means we prioritize a diverse F5 community where each individual can thrive.

About the Role:

As a Senior Solutions Engineer (SE) at F5, you will serve as a trusted technical architect and strategic advisor to Fortune 500 enterprises and fast-growing digital innovators. Working in close partnership with the Sales Director and our Enterprise/Commercial Account teams across North America, your high-level objective is to design, champion, and sell modern F5 application delivery and security solutions across multi-cloud, hybrid, and edge environments to achieve allocated sales targets.

Today, F5 secures and delivers over half of the world's application traffic. In this role, you will help shape the next chapter of global application infrastructure—protecting mission-critical workloads, orchestrating cloud-native API architectures, and enabling enterprise AI initiatives with secure, high-performance foundations.

We know that elite solutions engineers come from diverse backgrounds and non-linear paths. If you are excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every bullet point, we still highly encourage you to apply. If you bring strong technical curiosity, a consultative approach, and the drive to solve complex problems, we would love to connect with you.

 What You’ll Do:
  • Strategic Technical Partnership: Partner with CISOs, Cloud Architects, and Platform Engineering leaders, translating complex business goals into resilient, scalable architectural blueprints.
  • Guide Customer Modernization Journeys: Empower our established enterprise customer base to evolve their trusted BIG-IP foundations into agile, modern hybrid architectures—seamlessly bridging established data-center infrastructure with distributed cloud and containerized environments.
  • Architect Modern App Delivery & Security: Lead technical discovery, design validations, and solution demonstrations across Web Application & API Protection (WAAP), proactive Bot Defense, DDoS mitigation, and Zero Trust access.
  • Enable Cloud-Native & AI Transformation: Help organizations modernize traffic management, Kubernetes ingress patterns, and emerging AI inference pipelines and AI Gateway architectures.
  • Bridge the Gap between Security and Developer Velocity: Demonstrate automated, declarative workflows using Infrastructure-as-Code (such as Terraform or Ansible) and CI/CD pipelines, bringing NetOps, SecOps, and DevOps together.

  • Drive Technical Alignment: Lead the technical evaluation process with clarity and empathy, identifying customer priorities and validating F5’s differentiated value in competitive environments.
  • Collaborate & Influence: Share insights from customer engagements with F5’s Product and Engineering teams to help shape our distributed cloud and security roadmaps.
 What You Bring:

 Experience:

  • Pre-Sales / Technical Consulting Experience: 8+ years of experience in pre-sales engineering, systems engineering, technical consulting, or an equivalent customer-aligned systems/solutions architecture role.
  • F5 Product Knowledge: Strong proficiency with F5 solutions, with a preference for hands-on experience with BIG-IP.
  • Security Expertise: Knowledge of securing mobility interfaces, DNS, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), and general Layer 4 to Layer 7 awareness.
  • Kubernetes and Cloud-Native Technologies: Basic understanding preferred, including familiarity with containers and orchestration platforms.  CKA certification is a plus.
  • AI Security with a focus on Guardrails and Red Team is advantageous.
  • Service Provider Networking Environments: Experience in service provider environments is advantageous, with direct experience working on AT&T a preference.

Technical Strengths:

  • Application Security & API Governance: Understanding of Web Application Security, API protection (such as OWASP API Top 10), automated threat mitigation, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Cloud-Native & Modern Ingress: Experience with container environments (Kubernetes (K8), OpenShift), modern ingress controllers, API gateways, or service mesh technologies (e.g., NGINX).
  • Multi-Cloud & Hybrid Networking: Working knowledge of modern cloud environments (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and hybrid connectivity patterns.
  • Automation & Programmability: Experience with scripting (Python, Go, or Bash) or declarative configuration tools (Terraform, Ansible, GitOps practices).
  • Enterprise ADC & Security Foundations: Strong knowledge of classic enterprise ADCs, traffic management, and security infrastructure, with a passion for guiding customers to modern hybrid environments.
  • Core Internet Protocols & Systems: In-depth understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, HTTP/2, SSL/TLS, DNS, and Unix/Linux-based operating systems.

Education & Continuous Learning:

  • BS/BA degree in a relevant technical field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems) or equivalent practical industry experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications preferred, but not required (such as Kubernetes CKA, Cloud Solutions Architect certifications, or CISSP) or equivalent self-directed learning.
