Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and re-purposing technology across different business and distribution channels - including streaming, linear, and theatrical - so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.
The Acquisition team is the front door of our metadata content pipeline. As a gateway team, we ingest source media and metadata, navigate diverse content formats and delivery specifications, and onboard content partners onto our platform. The team goes beyond interpreting partner deliveries; we reshape them to standardize interactions, facilitating a smooth transition within the media supply chain. Moreover, we are actively constructing a unified acquisition ecosystem set to power all of our content across all streaming platforms. This presents an excellent opportunity for candidates to add their expertise to the foundational aspects of our streaming services, ensuring a lasting impact in a domain critical to the Disney Streaming's success!
Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software for Disney Streaming products, at a global scale
  • Lead and deliver individual project priorities
  • Provide mentoring and advice for other specialists
  • Recruit and help hire software engineers.
  • Provide on-call rotational support as needed.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of related work experience, with a focus on crafting and developing APIs and building backend services that are highly available, fault tolerant, and distributed in nature.
  • Experience in programming with Java and proficient with one or more general purpose programming languages (Scala, Python, Javascript, etc)
  • Experience with messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, etc.), public cloud providers (AWS), and observability tools for metrics, logging, and monitoring (e.g., Datadog, Splunk, Grafana) and containerization and databases (Kubernetes, Docker, SQL, NoSQL, etc.)
  • Self-learner, independent, excellent problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of AGILE/Scrum practices

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York City, NY is $142,516 to $191,180 per year; the hiring range for this position in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., California and in Bristol, Connecticut is $136,038 to $182,490; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $148,994 to $199,870 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
