Senior QA Engineer responsible for testing robotic systems across software, hardware, and integrated robot cells. Duties include creating test strategies and automated suites, integrating tests into CI/CD, deploying software on Linux systems, debugging logs and stack traces, managing defects in GitLab, validating hardware-software integration, supporting releases, collaborating with developers and product owners, and mentoring junior teammates.
Summary Generated by Built In

As a Senior QA Engineer at Plus One Robotics, you will ensure that our robotic systems, including the software and hardware that make them up, are dependable and of the highest quality.

You will deploy and test software on Linux-based industrial PCs (IPCs), build and maintain automated test suites, analyze logs and stack traces to pinpoint failures, and verify that products work end to end in a physical robot cell. You will work closely with developers to find and verify fixes, with product owners to confirm the product does what they intended, and with customers to understand how it is used in the field.

This is a senior level position; we are not considering entry-level candidates for this role.

Essential Functions

Software Testing and Automation

  • Define and implement testing strategies for new and existing products, covering functional, regression, integration, performance, and stability testing
  • Create detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans, test cases, and documentation from requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites to validate functionality, performance, and stability. Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines so builds are validated before release. Perform manual tests when automation isn't feasible
  • Build internal tools and scripts to optimize and automate QA workflows, test data collection, and log analysis

Deployment, Debugging, and Defect Management

  • Install, deploy, and configure software builds and deploy packages on Linux-based industrial PCs (IPCs) and test systems
  • Read stack traces, application logs, and system output to isolate where and why a failure occurred, and deliver actionable findings to developers
  • Identify, thoroughly document, and track bugs in GitLab throughout the development cycle, with clear steps to reproduce and supporting logs or screenshots. Work with developers to verify fixes and confirm no regressions
  • Use git and GitLab daily to check out branches and tags under test, review merge requests and pipelines to understand what changed, and manage issues and epics

Hardware and System Testing

  • Perform hands-on testing of POR robotic systems, including InductOne, verifying that software, electrical, and mechanical sub-systems work together end to end
  • Troubleshoot at the system level to determine whether a fault originates in software, electrical, or mechanical sub-systems

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Be an advocate for our customers and end users by holding a high standard for quality and usability
  • Work with product owners to confirm features meet requirements and intended customer use, and participate in acceptance and release sign-off
  • Present QA data, test results, and analyses to stakeholders, including customers, leadership, and cross-functional teams, in a clear, accessible manner tailored to the audience
  • Mentor interns and junior-level teammates by sharing QA best practices, providing technical guidance, reviewing their work, and supporting their professional development

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong software QA fundamentals: test strategy, test plan development, test case design, bug reporting, regression testing, fix verification, and acceptance testing
  • Proficient in Python, TypeScript, or a similar language used in test automation
  • Working proficiency with the Linux command line, including file system navigation, permissions, SSH, managing services, and reading logs
  • Experience installing and deploying software builds or deploy packages to test or production systems
  • Experience with git and GitLab (or GitHub): branches, tags, merge requests, and issue tracking
  • Experience testing hardware or physical systems, or a demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn hands-on hardware testing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment

Preferred

  • Experience with testing frameworks such as Pytest, Puppeteer, Playwright, or similar. Familiarity with C++
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitLab CI
  • Experience with Docker or other containerized deployments

Required Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical  or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience in QA or test engineering, with the majority in software testing
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience developing software test automation
  • Experience testing products that combine software and hardware, such as robotics, automation, or embedded systems

Work Environment & Travel

  • This position operates in a professional office setting with occasional exposure to robotic systems and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment and job sites may at times be loud.
  • There is some travel expected for the purposes of customer support and deployments.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Locatio

Full time, 40 hours/week between M-F, 9:00am-6:00pm, In office at our San Antonio based HQ.
