Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Development Analyst – SW Engr (26-355) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
This role is for a Software Engineer working on the C2BMC program, supporting one of the Regional Applications teams in Colorado Springs—either User Interface, Enterprise Services, or RA-An. The candidate will work with minimal supervision, offering specialized expertise across various software disciplines and a broad understanding of related systems and customer environments. Responsibilities involve detailed analysis and technical support for systems software products, including troubleshooting complex issues, designing, developing, integrating, conducting formal testing, deploying in operations, and providing user support.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for in-depth analysis and technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
- Handles currency updates, debugs, and configures associated software products
- Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications
- Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs
- Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the operating system's overall efficiency
- Designs, codes, tests, and implements tools for operational automation
- Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases
- Leadership positions on small, software-focused teams may be required
Basic Qualifications:

- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Experience in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Java, C#, C++, Python, etc.)
- Experience with software integration and formal testing
- Strong understanding of software development best practices and the ability to apply them in a multi-team environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proven track record of root-cause analysis and issue resolution
- Proven ability to mentor and motivate junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and drives the team toward shared success
- Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
- Software engineering and software development with strong Java/J2EE experience
- The candidate will have experience and knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management
- Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also desired)
- Extensive Experience with Java foundation classes and toolkits
- Possess strong problem-solving skills, capable of analyzing performance and operational issues, pinpointing root causes, and proposing, designing, and implementing effective solutions
- Use of common software development and management tools such as Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, and Eclipse
- Experience in Agile development methodologies
- Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Small team leadership experience (Agile team leadership strongly desired); mentoring and guiding junior engineers
- Knowledge of server side/database development, computer system administration; Net-centric, horizontal integration program expertise is a plus

Primary Level Salary Range: $129,300.00 - $193,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
