POSITION SUMMARY:

Due to increased global demand for critical power, our client's Mechanical Design Engineer play a key role in our Sales Order Engineering team helping to facilitate development of engineered to order load banks including portable, permanent and trailerized versions.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews and evaluates sales order requirements\specifications and other customer supplied materials to configure and\or develop load banks solutions within established cycle time goals
  • Works with Sales and potentially the customer to resolve any requirements not clearly defined
  • Works with Electrical Engineers and Drafting to produce customer drawings that meet specifications and industry standards
  • Acts as the technical lead on assigned projects and is expected to be knowledgeable and accountable for the work performed on the project
  • Works with internal groups such as Assembly, Procurement and field technicians during start up to resolve issues and coordinate engineering response and action plans as needed
  • Works with Sales and Applications Engineering as subject matter expert providing support in pre-Sales phase
  • Approves project release to Manufacturing
  • Prepares engineering submittals for filing product with UL and CSA agencies to obtain approvals; directs third party product certification and testing where required
  • Works with Assembly and Test departments as required to resolve any issues encountered during build\test.
  • Ensures all product safety requirements are met

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a project team to deliver cost effective, manufacturable designs which are aligned to customer requirements, including safety
  • Provide updates on project status and timeline for completion
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and promoting a proactive approach to identify and mitigate potential hazards with new product manufacturing process
  • Live the mission, vision and values of the company
  • Any other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience developing and creating new products preferably in the electromechanical products space
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in related role
  • Strong knowledge of safety protocols, quality control, and manufacturing processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience designing to UL, CSA, NEC, and other safety agency requirements
  • Knowledge of basic electrical concepts such as current carrying capability of conductors, ampacity, and electrical spacing requirements is a plus.
  • Industry-specific knowledge in the electrical testing space is a plus
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is a plus


EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Five or more years of professional experience with OEM design activities using mechanical design software packages and 3D modeling software
  • Specific knowledge of AutoCAD, ERP system functionality, and Microsoft Applications
  • Creative and flexible personality to work through changing responsibilities and customer requirements
  • Understanding of seismic, wind and vibration calculations to support equipment designs (IBC) is a plus.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering. Advanced degree is a plus
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills required to interface with customers and vendors
  • Demonstrated problem solving expertise


Experience

  • Five or more years of professional experience with development, design and engineering of mechanical\electrical systems using both 2D and 3D CAD software
