Q2 is seeking a Sr. Technical Manager, Software Engineering to lead a dynamic team of full stack developers and quality engineers in delivering an industry-changing fintech platform. You will be working at a company whose mission is to build stronger and more diverse communities by strengthening their financial institutions, while partnering with fintech innovators who are shaping the future of financial services.

As a Sr. Technical Manager, you will manage a team of skilled engineers working with JavaScript (Ember.js, Vue.js, Node.js) and Python to deliver a secure, scalable, and high-quality banking platform. You will be responsible for driving technical excellence—ensuring code quality through reviews, fostering engineering best practices, overseeing system design and architecture, and maintaining a strong focus on reliability and performance. Additionally, you will oversee key aspects such as quality assurance, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines. This role requires a highly motivated leader who can balance people management with hands-on technical guidance.

Bring Your Passion, Do What You Love. Here’s What We’re Looking For:

  • Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of full stack engineers (JavaScript and Python), ensuring high standards of software craftsmanship, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Set and enforce coding standards, review code for correctness, performance, and security, and ensure adherence to best practices in software engineering.
  • Guide architectural decision-making, ensuring robust designs that align with business goals and future scalability.
  • Oversee end-to-end development cycles, from requirements gathering and system design through implementation, deployment, and post-release monitoring.
  • Drive adoption of engineering best practices, including unit testing, integration testing, code coverage, and secure coding practices.
  • Process & Delivery

  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab/Jenkins (or similar), ensuring reliable automated builds, testing, and deployment workflows.
  • Proactively monitor platform performance, reliability, and security using modern observability and crash reporting tools.
  • Manage technical debt, prioritize refactoring, and champion maintainability across the codebase.
  • Collaborate with product management, UX, and backend engineering teams to align development priorities with product strategy and roadmap.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve cost efficiency, scalability, and overall platform resilience.
  • People & Culture

  • Mentor engineers in both technical skills (code design, debugging, system design) and career growth.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion knowledge-sharing practices, such as design reviews, post-mortems, and engineering documentation.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with 6+ years of experience; or equivalent relevant work experience.
Typically requires 2-5 years managing and developing employees.
  • Expertise in JavaScript, Python, and SQL.
  • Experience with monitoring and crash reporting tools like Splunk, SetinelOne, or similar.
  • Experience in a client interfacing role required
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the banking industry preferred.
  • Experience integrating applications with core banking platforms desired
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain patient with non-technical customers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Solid understanding of AWS architecture patterns.

This position requires fluent written and oral communication in English.
