General Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Future Business Development (FBD), is responsible for project management and business development of low-carbon fuels primarily renewable natural gas (RNG) and e-methane. The Senior Manager, FBD will be responsible for supporting the establishment of the FBD general investment strategy, project and company evaluations, due diligence, and research in conjunction with the low-carbon fuel industry in the U.S.  Additionally, the Senior Manager, on behalf of the FBD team, will serve as the external interface between Osaka Gas (OG), partners, financial players, advisors, etc. to achieve decarbonization goals and maximize the profit of Daigas Group.


Essential Job Functions 

Leads business development and project management activities for RNG and e-methane business opportunities

-      Identify new business opportunities or market segments in which OGUSA can expect potential growth, including analysis of U.S. Japan, and European regulations and energy-related policy trends under the mid/long-term investment strategy for RNG and e-methane.

-      Lead business development activities by sourcing potential investment opportunities and conducting due diligence on equity participation, asset acquisition(s), and/or corporate M&A, working closely and collectively with OG Headquarters.

-      Lead contract evaluation, such as equity agreements, sales and purchase agreements for low-carbon fuels, and O&M agreements as needed

-      Lead financial model review to support investment decision-making

-      Lead progress management of existing investment portfolio and Pre-FEED/FEED staged projects toward final investment decision (FID)

 

Leads smooth communication between OGUSA and external partners

-      Lead communication between OGUSA and partner(s) to conduct project progress management and to achieve business development progress within the team

-      Investigate growth constraints, potential risk, and hidden opportunity loss in partner and defines key success factors in the investment opportunity of low-carbon fuels

-      Lead all aspects of due diligence and analysis of investment opportunities of low-carbon fuel business

-      Upon request, attend project progress meetings, or regular meetings with partner(s) and support the development of OGUSA internal reports

-      Communicate and coordinate with external advisors including but not limited to legal, tax, accounting, and/or technical advisors


Supports establishing investment strategies for business development activities of new opportunities

-      Perform a key role in establishing OGUSA’s mid/long-term investment strategy and materializing specific action plans, contributing to DGG’s profit towards and beyond 2035, understanding and accommodating DGG-wide strategies

-     Supervise peer/junior staff in the analysis of the U.S. market outlook, including regulatory / policy trend research

-      Act as the liaison/facilitator among related business parties, not only with partner(s) but also banks, EPC companies, data subscription vendors and external consultants, and explains the concepts and needs of OGUSA

-      Find the best approach to create strategic, successful partnerships in the U.S.

-      Keep meeting minutes, develop reports and support other internal reports and meetings as needed

-      Avid learner display intellectual curiosity to new business domains not limited to Energy Services, Geothermal or Carbon Credit.


RequirementsRequirements

Education

-      Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or other Renewable Energy-related Finance or science field. MBA preferred

Experience

-      At least 5 years of related energy industry experience


Preferred Experience

-      Corporate level equity participation and due diligence on financial performance (including model review) in the US energy sector, preferably in the energy transition sector

-      Experience in applying tax credits to energy projects in the U.S.

-      Experience with EPC and O&M activities, working knowledge of associated agreements

-      Experience negotiating definitive agreements relating to commodity sales & purchase, equity participation with legal support

-      Experience working in an organization to achieve business results, especially in a multicultural environment

Skills

-      Excellent written and oral communication skills

-      Excellent management and team skills

-      Ability to remain calm and courteous in demanding situations

-      Eager to understand the culture/nuanced internal approval process of a Japanese company

-      Willingness to attend occasional meetings with Japan-based colleagues before or after normal working hours
