POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Data Architect to design, optimize, and scale our data and reporting layers. This role is also open to contractors. You will focus on building a robust SQL-based data warehouse, improving data models for business intelligence, and leveraging Microsoft Fabric to create efficient, reliable data pipelines. The ideal candidate has experience working with Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) data and understands the nuances of sales, distribution, retail, and customer analytics.

This role requires 4 days on site collaboration per week. You must be able to commute to our West 22nd Street office in New York.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Design and optimize data architecture to support scalable, high-performance reporting and analytics 
    • Develop and maintain SQL-based data warehouse structures 
    • Improve and standardize data models used for BI and reporting tools 
    • Build and manage data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric 
    • Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance across reporting layers 
    • Collaborate with business and analytics teams to translate requirements into efficient data solutions 
    • Identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements in data storage and query performance 
    • Document data models, architecture, and processes 

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Proven experience as a Data Architect or Senior Data Engineer in BI environments 
  • Strong expertise in SQL and data warehouse design principles 
  • Hands-on experience with dimensional modeling (Kimball or similar) 
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric 
  • Deep understanding of BI/reporting workflows and data optimization techniques 
  • Familiarity with modern data architecture patterns 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally 
  • Hands-on mindset: comfortable contributing technically while shaping the strategic direction. 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience working with Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) data (POS data, syndicated data, sales and distribution) 
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other visualization tools 
  • Exposure to data governance and data quality frameworks 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, scaling environment

The salary range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a team member's base salary several factors may be considered as applicable including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority.
For contractors, compensation will be offered as an hourly rate or fixed project fee, depending on the scope of work and experience level. The estimated pay range for this role is $77 to $97 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, experience, and agreed-upon deliverables.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience building and scaling data teams and platforms from early stage to maturity.
  • Experience managing both data engineers and analysts, or working across both functions.
  • Strong understanding of modern data stack technologies.
  • Expertise in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, C#, etc.).
  • Experience with data governance, lineage, and metadata management tools.
  • Strong understanding of analytics workflows and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Professional experience integrating in-house AI models and API calls to foundational models (OpenAI, Anthropic).
  • The ability to translate technical data models into business value.
  • Hands-on mindset: comfortable contributing technically while shaping the strategic direction.
