Sr. Manager, Accounting & Financial Reporting

As the Sr. Manager, Accounting & Financial Reporting you will report directly to the regional Controller of the North America (NAM) region. This is a supervisory role in the NAM accounting department and is crucial to ensure accuracy and timeliness of our monthly financial reporting. Highly qualified candidates at the “Manager” level will also be considered for this role. 

You will help lead the monthly financial close process, including preparation of the monthly close calendar, review and preparation of higher risk journal entries such as for bad debt reserves, customer return accruals and customer discounts, preparation and review account reconciliations in Blackline each month, and execution of Kontoor’s internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.

You will work closely with other Kontoor departments such as Credit, Treasury and Brand Finance to help resolve accounting, business and system issues that arise; represent the Accounting team on cross-functional projects such as new system upgrades and interfaces; review operating expenses and explain variances to forecast during monthly finance reviews; prepare and present schedules in semi-annual Balance Sheet Reviews with the Kontoor Corporate team; provide coaching and training to direct reports and other team members to benefit their career development; assist in preparation of monthly forecast, quarterly board reporting and annual Plan; provide timely communication to Controller and Accounting/Finance leadership on accounting and business issues as they arise. 

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and review of journal entries.
  • Preparation and review of balance sheet account reconciliations in Blackline.
  • Participate and/or lead certain system and finance-related projects.
  • Work in SAP S/4 Hana to understand impacts to net sales and operating expenses to adequately explain variances to forecast.
  • Coach and develop less-experienced staff.
  • Execute internal controls in compliance with SOX requirements.

Leadership:

This role will have 2 direct reports and should lead by example through a combination of hard work and empathy. Specific leadership skills required for the position include:

  • Present and meetings/finance reviews with the NAM Controller and/or Accounting/Finance leadership.
  • Obtain relevant information from other Kontoor groups that supplement our financial reporting, such as Credit, Brand Finance and Treasury, and proactively follow up with these groups as necessary.
  • Effectively coach and train direct reports by always being available and providing clear and concise feedback.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a college degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Must have moderate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (i.e., ability to structure and analyze larger data sets and write formulas).
  • Should possess 7+ years of experience in Accounting or Finance with 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Detail oriented and able to comply with tight deadlines.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • CPA or similar designation preferred.
    • Experience in SAP S/4 HANA is preferred.
