Position Summary
The Lead Infrastructure Engineer (Storage/Backup) is responsible for the design, implementation, and operational support of enterprise storage and data protection platforms, with a focus on Dell EMC storage systems, NetApp and Veritas NetBackup. This role ensures high availability, performance optimization, and resiliency of storage and backup services across on‑prem and hybrid/cloud environments.
Primary Responsibilities
Storage Infrastructure Engineering
Administer and support enterprise SAN/NAS storage environments (EMC PowerMax, NetApp, Isilon, etc.),
Manage Cisco MDS SAN fabric (zoning, VSANs, trunking), perform capacity management, and optimize performance.
Ensure availability, reliability, and performance of storage platforms supporting critical applications.
Execute lifecycle management including firmware upgrades, patching, and health checks.
Backup & Recovery (NetBackup)
Design, implement, and administer Veritas NetBackup (including Flex Appliances).
Define and manage backup policies, retention schedules, and recovery procedures.
Monitor and troubleshoot backup jobs to ensure SLA compliance.
Perform restore validations, DR testing, and backup audits.
Data Protection & Disaster Recovery
Develop and implement enterprise backup and disaster recovery strategies.
Integrate backup solutions with virtualization (VMware).
Support replication, archiving, and data lifecycle management initiatives.
Operational Excellence & Incident Management
Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of storage/backup incidents.
Drive service reliability improvements and prevent recurring issues.
Support 24x7 operations/on-call rotation as needed.
Capacity Planning & Performance Optimization
Monitor storage utilization and forecast growth requirements.
Optimize backup performance, deduplication, and storage efficiency.
Plan and execute storage expansion and refresh activities.
Automation, Compliance & Documentation
Automate storage and backup operations using scripting (PowerShell, Python).
Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams.
Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Leadership
Partner with cloud, virtualization, database, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
Act as SME for enterprise storage and backup technologies.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
10-12 years of experience in enterprise storage and backup engineering.
Hands-on expertise with:
Dell EMC, Pure storage platforms (PowerMax, NetApp, Isilon, Pure etc.)
Veritas NetBackup (including flex appliance) administration and architecture
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 10-12 years of experience in enterprise storage and backup engineering
- Hands-on expertise with Dell EMC, Pure Storage, PowerMax, NetApp, Isilon, or similar storage platforms
- Veritas NetBackup administration and architecture, including Flex Appliance
