SR. IT NETWORK ENGINEER

SpaceX is looking for an experienced Sr. IT Network Engineer with expertise in networking technologies that support routing, switching, dynamic multicast, Wi-Fi, network access control, and automation. This employee will be a member of the IT Networking & Telecom team, which is responsible for maintaining a stable, reliable, and diverse network. This network supports the design, manufacturing, and launching of rockets, spacecraft, satellites, and human spaceflight. This position will support and expand campus and data center infrastructure, including live data center build environments, using reliable and redundant design standards. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator, able to document work in a ticketing system, excel at multi-tasking, resolve issues to prevent failures, and enjoy a fast-paced high-tech environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement, maintain, document, support, and upgrade LAN, WAN, MAN, and WLAN.
  • Install, configure, and support campus and data center networks.
  • Troubleshoot wired and wireless networking issues.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot large and complex wireless networks.
  • Support network access control (NAC) using 802.1X.
  • Develop network automation tools to support the enterprise network.
  • Monitor network health using in-house and third-party tools.
  • Create and maintain documentation of the networks.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or other STEM discipline and 5+ years of professional network engineering experience; OR 8+ years of professional network engineering experience and high school diploma or equivalency certificate in lieu of a degree.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Expert understanding of the OSI model and network standards.
  • Cisco Catalyst, Juniper, and Arista data center-class switches.
  • Cisco wireless LAN controllers or other wireless technologies.
  • Network Access Control (NAC) using 802.1X.
  • Wave Division Multiplexing and fiber optics.
  • DNS, DHCP, SNMP, IP helpers, ARP, CDP, LLDP.
  • BGP routing.
  • Switch port security features.
  • Network monitoring tools.
  • Network documentation.
  • Linux/Windows system administration.
  • Python and Python-based development frameworks.
  • Source control tools such as Git or Subversion.
  • Infrastructure as code for managing fleets of network devices and servers.
  • Build systems and package management tools.
  • Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, or other automation frameworks.
  • Industry-standard certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or JNCIE.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This role requires you to be onsite. Hybrid or remote work will not be considered.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 35 lbs. unassisted.
