Job Description:

Department Overview

The Canadian Personal Banking (CPB) Payments Technology team is responsible for delivering and supporting technology solutions that enable secure, reliable, and innovative payment experiences for TD's Canadian Personal Banking customers. The team partners closely with business and product stakeholders to design, build, and enhance payment capabilities across domestic and international payment channels, while ensuring scalability, resiliency, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

 

Within CPB Payments Technology, the Global Transfers Technology team is responsible for the delivery and ongoing evolution of TD's international remittance platform. This capability enables customers to send money securely from Canada to recipients in more than 100 countries worldwide through TD's digital banking channels.

 

Job Accountabilities – What You'll Do

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead multiple Agile engineering teams responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of payment platforms.
  • Establish a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Build, mentor, coach, and develop Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, and Software Engineers.
  • Drive engineering best practices including code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational readiness.
  • Foster a "build it, own it, support it" engineering mindset.

Payments Platform Delivery

  • Lead the delivery of Java-based payment orchestration solutions supporting domestic and international payment rails.
  • Oversee the development of payment workflows, orchestration engines, API services, shared payment services, and event-driven architectures.
  • Ensure solutions meet business objectives for transaction throughput, resiliency, latency, availability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive modernization initiatives leveraging microservices, APIs, cloud-native patterns, and event streaming technologies.

Architecture & Technology Strategy

  • Partner with Enterprise and Solution Architects to define target-state payment architectures.
  • Influence technical direction and engineering standards across the Payments organization.
  • Lead architectural reviews and technology decisions to ensure scalability, maintainability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Champion engineering standards for resiliency, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and performance optimization.

Reliability & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure platforms meet high-availability requirements through resilient design patterns, circuit breakers, failover mechanisms, and proactive monitoring.
  • Drive production stability by reducing incidents, improving recoverability, and enhancing observability.
  • Establish SRE and DevOps practices focused on automation, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans for critical production events.

Stakeholder & Delivery Management

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Business Leaders, Architecture, Risk, and Operations teams to define roadmaps and priorities.
  • Manage large-scale technology initiatives from concept through delivery.
  • Provide transparency on delivery commitments, risks, dependencies, and financial forecasts.
  • Align engineering execution with organizational and strategic objectives.

Job Requirements – What You Need to Succeed

Experience

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale enterprise payment systems or mission-critical transaction processing platforms.
  • Strong background in Agile and SAFe delivery methodologies.
  • Experience managing multiple cross-functional engineering teams.

Technical Expertise

  • Extensive expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and enterprise application development.
  • Deep understanding of payment orchestration, transaction lifecycle management, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with:
    • Microservices architecture
    • REST APIs
    • Kafka or equivalent messaging platforms
    • Distributed systems
    • Relational databases (Oracle)
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Cloud platforms (Azure)
    • Observability tools and application monitoring
