Job Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Storage and Backup Engineer to manage and enhance our advanced storage and backup systems. In this role, you will lead the architecture, engineering, and support of Honeywell’s storage and backup environments as part of the Enterprise Compute Infrastructure team. Your responsibilities will include gathering requirements, helping design, recommending, and implementing on-premises and cloud storage solutions.
Expertise is required in technologies like NetApp, Nasuni for cloud-based storage, VAST for block storage, and Rubrik for backup solutions. You’ll also identify opportunities to optimize existing systems to increase reliability and availability and regularly participate in Disaster Recovery exercises. Experience with tools such as ServiceNow and Splunk is necessary, as well as working with automation platforms like CHEF or Tanium.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
- Storage Management: Responsible for the architecture, engineering, and support of both on-premises and cloud-based storage solutions, including NetApp and Nasuni. Storage and Backup Engineers are tasked with designing, managing, and optimizing data storage and recovery systems to maintain data integrity, availability, and security.
- Backup Solutions: Develop and manage comprehensive backup strategies utilizing Rubrik CDM and Rubrik Security Cloud.
- Performance Optimization: Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize SAN and NAS environments to maximize performance.
- Capacity Planning: Contribute to future storage capacity planning and optimize existing infrastructures, including onboarding sites into the DCN support model and managing related projects. Provide strategic guidance for technology roadmaps concerning storage and backup systems.
- Disaster Recovery: Engage in regular disaster recovery exercises to validate data integrity and system availability.
- Optimization: Provide oversight of Honeywell IT’s storage platform optimization, monitoring, and lifecycle management. Facilitate migration of workloads between on-premises and off-premises cloud environments.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address application and infrastructure-related challenges.
- Project Management: Lead onboarding projects for new sites within support models and manage associated activities.
- Professional Expectations: Available for on-call and weekend maintenance, Coordinate with vendors for support and hardware needs, collaborate across IT teams to align storage with organizational goals
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or Business-related field.
- 8 years’ experience with SAN/NAS systems (NetApp) in enterprise settings; cloud storage experience (Nasuni).
- 8 years’ background using and supporting enterprise backup tech (Rubrik), including large-scale troubleshooting and recovery within SLA.
- Expertise in cloud data protection/storage solutions on GCP, AWS, and Azure.
- Skilled with backup solutions (especially Rubrik) and cloud backup services.
- Experience in capacity planning and performance optimization.
- Track record in supporting critical infrastructure operations.
- Familiarity with ITSM tools (ServiceNow); skilled in monitoring/reporting via Splunk.
- Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, VPN, NFS/SMB/CIFS/SCSI).
- Hardware installation, racking, and stacking experience for storage/backup devices.
- Runbook and documentation management/audit support.
- Automation experience with CHEF or Tanium.
- Advanced scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
