About the Role
Magna Exteriors is seeking an experienced Group Health and Safety Sr. Specialist to lead and support the implementation of health and safety programs across our North American (US, CA, MX) operations. The successful candidate will focus on OSHA regulatory compliance, ergonomics program requirements, and adherence to Magna International's safety standards. This role involves extensive travel to multiple Magna facilities to conduct audits, assessments, and provide engineering support in reducing workplace hazards and optimizing ergonomics.
Your Responsibilities
- OSHA Compliance / Magna Safety Standards Implementation:bEnsure Group-wide adherence to OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910), including hazard communication, machine guarding, lockout/tagout, industrial hygiene, powered industrial trucks, and fall protection. Develop and implement safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance across Magna's facilities. Assist divisional level adherence of Magna International ergonomics program. Conduct ergonomic risk assessments and make recommendations for workstation design, tools, and job processes to minimize ergonomic risks and improve employee safety and comfort. Best practice alignment with Magna International's safety protocols, including the company's commitment to continuous improvement through the Mafact program. Lead projects to integrate Magna's safety pillars into facility processes, promoting a safe working environment that reduces injury risks.
- Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular health and safety inspection at Magna facilities to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, ergonomic standards, and Magna's internal safety requirements. Identify areas of risk, recommend corrective actions, identify best practices and follow up on their implementation.
- Incident Investigation and Reporting: Assist investigations into workplace accidents and near-miss incidents, assist in conducting root cause analysis, and develop corrective action plans. Ensure that all incidents are properly reported and recorded per OSHA and Magna guidelines.
- Training and Development: Develop and deliver health and safety training programs focused front line compliance, ergonomics, and Magna safety standards. Ensure that employees across all levels are trained in safe work practices and emergency response procedures.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with general managers, safety committees, and other key stakeholders to drive safety improvements. Work with engineering, operations, and human resources teams to implement ergonomic and safety initiatives.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety management systems. Use health & safety data analysis to monitor and analyze health and safety metrics, such as injury/illness rates, near-miss incidents, and ergonomic risk factors. Identify trends and provide recommendations for proactive measures to improve safety performance across all Magna facilities.
Who we are looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 7 to 10 years of experience in health and safety engineering, with a focus on OSHA compliance and ergonomics program implementation in a manufacturing or automotive setting. Experience with Magna International's safety standards and Mafact safety pillars is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety engineering principles, and ergonomics best practices.
- Experience conducting ergonomic risk assessments and implementing workplace design improvements.
- Strong analytical skills for data collection and interpretation of safety performance metrics.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead training sessions and influence cross-functional teams.
- Strong project management skills with a focus on implementing continuous safety improvements.
- Proficiency in safety management software and data reporting tools.
Your preferred qualifications
Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) are preferred, but Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certifications are also acceptable.
