At Re:Build, our mission is to ensure the next generation of important products are made, at scale, in America. We are laying the foundation for a better future for our customers, employees, and communities by revitalizing America's manufacturing base and creating meaningful jobs across the country, including in historically deindustrialized regions.
We operate an advanced, end-to-end manufacturing platform that partners with industrial companies and innovators to take products from first concept to full-scale production in critical verticals including aerospace and defense, electrification, medical, energy and environment, and robotics and automation.
The way we operate is as important as the work we do. It's guided by The Re:Build Way, 16 principles that shape how we collaborate with each other, partner with our customers and vendors, and contribute to the communities where we operate. (link to The Re:Build Way principles)
Who we are looking for
Serving as a trusted technical advisor and key problem-solver, the Senior Forward Deployed Engineer leads efforts to overcome complex operational and technical challenges. This role focuses on one of our cable assembly production sites. Drawing on extensive knowledge of distributed software systems and AWS cloud infrastructure, this individual will diagnose and resolve issues spanning plant operations, system integrations, and cloud-based services. They will work closely with plant leadership and the Cadonix development team. They will help find system improvement opportunities, influence feature enhancements, and translate manufacturing needs into technical requirements.
What you get to do
- On-Site Technical Leadership – Lead on-site support for smartBuild at the plant. Own the resolution of complex, cross-system issues and set priorities alongside plant management during production-critical incidents, keeping collaborators informed until service is restored.
- Distributed Systems & AWS Operations – Diagnose issues across smartBuild's distributed architecture, from shop-floor components and integrations through to cloud services on AWS. Work with the Development and DevOps teams to improve reliability, performance, monitoring and deployment at the site.
- Customer Liaison & Solution Design – Translate the plant's manufacturing requirements into well-scoped change requests and solution proposals. Contribute to technical design discussions with Product and Development, and use knowledge of harness manufacturing to help shape the product roadmap.
- Lead root-cause analysis for major or recurring incidents. Drive preventive fixes alongside the development team. Continually improve runbooks, monitoring, and support processes.
- Mentorship & Collaboration – Mentor and guide a Forward Deployed Engineer with less experience, reviewing their work and exchanging technical and domain knowledge. Set the standard for on-site training and documentation for operators, supervisors and engineers.
What you bring to the Team
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years’ experience in software engineering, site reliability, solutions or application engineering
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, programming or scripting (e.g. Python, TypeScript/JavaScript or C#), APIs and integrations, and Windows and Linux environments. Experience with MES, ERP or other manufacturing systems is a plus.
- Experience with or familiarity in wire harness manufacturing (e.g. cutting, stripping, crimping, formboard assembly, electrical testing) or harness build tools, and an understanding of how software supports production flow, quality and traceability.
- 3+ years supporting complex distributed systems in production on AWS.
- Experience in or exposure to wire harness or electrical manufacturing is strongly preferred.
