About Team: As part of this portfolio, the Senior Engineering Manager will lead product teams delivering Workday-based solutions using technologies like Workday Extend, Prism, Orchestrate, Studio EIB, Advanced Reports, and custom Java/Spring Boot services. This leader will play a key role in shaping the future of HR technology at Target—driving modernization, influencing architectural direction, and scaling systems to meet enterprise demands.

About SEM: The Sr. Engineering Manager (SEM) is responsible for a managing a team of full stack engineers that is building scalable solutions that support a variety of up and down stream applications. This role is accountable for leading a team, developing code, deploying and managing in production. Most importantly, the SEM, while working with the Product Managers, is accountable for the development of the product roadmap and delivering highly functional, well integrated, and intelligent software. You will be called upon to be the technical representative for your team during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning. Success in this role will require strong and innovative approaches to problem solving, great technical leadership, excellent communication (written and verbal, formal and informal), global stakeholder management, flexibility, accountability and a self-motivated working style with attention to detail. About you:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in software development and team management
  • Expertise in Java programming languages
  • Experience evaluating new technologies and participating in decision-making, considering factors such as viability within Target’s technical environment, compliance requirements, approved tech status, maintainability, and cost of ownership
  • Proven ability to deliver high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure solutions with broad impact
  • Experience leading functional design and architecture discussions, with an understanding of process flows and system diagrams to support design decisions
  • Provides technical oversight and coaching to others in resolving technical issues
