Summary:
Shoals is seeking a highly motivated Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of innovative power distribution and electrical infrastructure products supporting next-generation data centers. This hands-on engineering role will be responsible for developing highly reliable, manufacturable, and scalable solutions that address the growing power demands of AI, cloud computing, and hyperscale data center applications.
The ideal candidate will possess strong product development experience, expertise in electrical and mechanical infrastructure design, and the ability to lead projects from concept through commercialization.
QualificationsResponsibilities:

Lead the design and development of data center power infrastructure products, including power distribution assemblies, busway systems, cable management solutions, and integrated electrical enclosures.

Develop innovative solutions that improve installation efficiency, reliability, safety, and scalability within data center environments.

Create and review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and product documentation using SolidWorks and PDM systems.
-
Conduct design calculations, tolerance analyses, thermal assessments, and structural evaluations to ensure product performance and compliance.

Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, and Operations teams to deliver products on time and within budget.

Support customer specification reviews and technical discussions to develop tailored solutions for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center customers.

Coordinate with compliance and certification teams to ensure designs meet UL, NEC, IEC, IEEE, and applicable industry standards.

Lead design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA activities, and Design Verification Testing (DVT).

Drive value engineering initiatives focused on cost reduction, manufacturability, and operational efficiency.

Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers.

Support prototype builds, product validation testing, and manufacturing launch activities.

Identify and resolve technical issues throughout the product development lifecycle.

Monitor emerging data center technologies, market trends, and customer requirements to support future product innovation.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.

Minimum of 8 years of product development and engineering design experience.

Proven experience designing power distribution, electrical infrastructure, industrial equipment, or mission-critical systems.

Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD platforms.

Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and phase-gate product development processes.

Experience creating and maintaining engineering documentation, drawings, and BOMs.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with data center power infrastructure, busway systems, switchgear, PDUs, RPPs, or similar electrical equipment.

Experience supporting hyperscale or colocation data center customers.

Knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems.

Familiarity with UL 891, UL 67, UL 1008, NEC, IEEE, and IEC standards.
