About the Role

This position will be responsible for developing next-generation AI solutions with Machine Learning, GenAI and Agentic AI to improve our engineering processes. These solutions will address all engineering domains, such as system, mechanical, electrical, software engineering and different automation levels from assistants to end-to-end workflows. Based on problem statements, concepts must be developed and different solution approaches shall be evaluated. The core focus is researching and applying state-of-the-art AI techniques to build solutions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our engineers.

Promising AI solutions will be matured from concept and proof-of-concept through validation and deployment readiness, enabling successful transition to internal customers. The developer will collaborate with internal customers, engineering teams, universities, and strategic partners throughout the development process, from idea to product.

In addition, support the R&D project team engineers and researchers with technical evaluation of technologies being considered by Magna.  The evaluation will consist of a scientific deep dive, application analysis, manufacturability, market and cost factors associated with the technology.  The Sr. Research Engineer will plan, execute and coordinate R&D programs for/with internal and external R&D departments, (supplier) companies, institutions and academia.

Your Responsibilities

  • Salary range CAD: $102,500 to $124,700 annually
  • Immediate, open position
  • Evaluation of technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and related specifications
  • Support the development of innovative components and modules from the initial concept phase through the complete development process including design engineering, validation, prototyping, testing, and evaluation of the proposed production capable process and business case
  • Support the ideation process while identifying gaps in the current product or manufacturing technology to guide and provide future R&D efforts.
  • Analyze engineering results and propose product changes to determine feasibility, improvement of components and systems and functional/performance specifications.  
  • Manage innovation projects by monitoring progress, coordinating activities, resolving technical issues with engineering teams, maintaining documentation systems, and preparing progress reports.

Who we are looking for

  • Master's or higher degree in Engineering including but not limited to: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science
  • 5 years or more experience including Ph.D. research, SW & ML/GenAI/AI related Industry
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Solid foundation in machine learning principles, algorithms, and practical applications.
  • Hands on experience in machine learning and AI frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, …
  • Experience building production-quality APIs, services, data pipelines, and AI applications with generative AI, agentic AI
  • Proficient in programming Python and object-oriented programming (OOP) principles.
  • Proficient with development tools including Git version control, Linux terminal, and Bash scripting.

Your preferred qualifications

  • Engineering Domain Knowledge experience preferred.
