Senior Electrical Test and Test Systems Engineer
Location: Delaware, Ohio (Onsite)

Position Summary
Vertiv is seeking a Senior Electrical Test and Test Systems Engineer to serve as the organization's primary technical authority for electrical measurement, power quality, advanced instrumentation, and complex UPS system analysis.
This role is significantly more than a traditional test engineering position. The successful candidate will function as the go-to expert for difficult electrical investigations, advanced metering applications, complex test setups, power quality analysis, and root-cause troubleshooting across the Product Integrity organization.
When test engineers encounter electrical problems that exceed standard troubleshooting methods, this individual will be the technical escalation resource responsible for developing measurement strategies, analyzing complex waveform behavior, diagnosing system interactions, and guiding engineering teams toward technically sound solutions.
The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in electrical power systems, metrology, instrumentation, power quality, and mission-critical UPS systems, while also leveraging modern software, automation, and AI tools to improve engineering productivity, reporting, and problem-solving capabilities.
Primary Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Subject Matter Expertise
- Serve as Vertiv's primary subject matter expert for electrical measurement, power metering, power quality, and advanced electrical diagnostics.
- Act as the escalation resource for engineers and technicians facing complex electrical, instrumentation, or root-cause investigations.
- Establish and maintain best practices for:
- Electrical metrology
- Power measurement systems
- Oscilloscope testing
- Current transformer (CT) applications
- Differential probe measurements
- Harmonic analysis
- Power factor analysis
- UPS transient testing
- Generator interaction analysis
- Grid disturbance investigations
- Provide technical consultation to engineering teams regarding difficult test setups, instrumentation selection, measurement methodology, and data interpretation.
- Mentor engineers and technicians in advanced electrical testing techniques and power-system diagnostics.
Advanced Power Systems Analysis
- Lead investigations involving:
- Power quality disturbances
- Harmonic distortion
- THD analysis
- Power factor abnormalities
- Inrush current events
- Voltage transients
- Grid abnormalities
- Generator interactions
- UPS transfer performance
- Fault ride-through behavior
- Battery and DC bus performance
- Ground fault and protective device interactions
- Analyze captured waveform data and develop technical conclusions supported by quantitative evidence.
- Identify root causes of electrical performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
UPS System Validation
- Lead qualification, DVT, witness, and engineering testing for large-scale UPS systems and supporting power infrastructure.
- Support customer demonstrations, witness testing, and field issue investigations when advanced electrical expertise is required.
Reporting, Tools & Automation
- Develop and maintain advanced analysis tools for waveform processing, power-quality evaluation, and automated reporting.
- Create standardized reporting methodologies and engineering analysis templates.
- Generate customer-facing and internal technical reports that clearly communicate findings, risks, and recommendations.
- Leverage AI technologies to improve: Engineering productivity, Root-cause investigations, Data analysis workflows, Reporting automation, Technical knowledge capture
- Develop software tools and automated solutions that transform raw electrical data into actionable engineering insights.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in electrical test engineering, power systems engineering, power electronics, UPS systems, or related fields.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Three-phase electrical power systems
- Power quality analysis
- Electrical measurement systems
- Electrical metrology
- Instrumentation and data acquisition
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Advanced hands-on experience using:
- Power analyzers
- Oscilloscopes
- Differential probes
- Current transformers (CTs)
- Current probes
- Data acquisition systems
- Harmonic analyzers
- Proven ability to independently diagnose complex electrical problems where root cause is not immediately apparent.
- Strong understanding of:
- RMS calculations
- Harmonics
- THD
- Power factor
- Voltage regulation
- Transient response
- Inrush current behavior
- Power system interactions
- Demonstrated experience developing test procedures, validation methodologies, and technical reports.
- Ability to communicate highly technical concepts to engineers, management, and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expert-level experience with large-scale UPS systems including: Vertiv Trinergy, EXL S1, APM2, Static Transfer Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Experience with: Qualification testing, Design Validation Testing (DVT), Customer witness testing, Product Integrity testing, Root-cause investigations
- Familiarity with: IEC 62040-3, ITIC/CBEMA standards, Power quality compliance testing, UL and certification testing
- Experience developing custom software tools for: Waveform analysis, Power-quality calculations, Automated reporting, Engineering data visualization
- Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Excel/VBA, or equivalent engineering software experience.
- Experience supporting customer escalations and high-visibility technical investigations.
Desired AI & Digital Engineering Capabilities
- Ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate engineering analysis and technical problem solving.
- Experience developing AI-assisted workflows for engineering productivity.
- Ability to create automated reporting, analysis, and decision-support tools from electrical measurement data.
- Strong understanding of how to validate AI-generated results against engineering principles and measured data.

Skills Required

- Hands-on experience with power analyzers, oscilloscopes, differential probes, CTs, current probes, data acquisition systems, and harmonic analyzers.
- Strong understanding of RMS calculations, harmonics, THD, power factor, voltage regulation, transient response, and inrush current behavior.
- Experience developing test procedures, validation methodologies, and technical reports.
