Job Description

The Sr. Director - North America Government Affairs role will be a key strategic leader, responsible for developing and executing Motorola Solutions’ government relations strategy at the state and local levels. This role requires a highly effective communicator and relationship builder with a sophisticated understanding of the political and regulatory landscape. This individual will be a trusted advisor to senior leadership and will play a critical role in shaping public policy that impacts the company's business.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement a comprehensive government affairs strategy aligned with Motorola Solutions' business objectives, including proactive and reactive engagement with legislative and regulatory bodies.  Identify emerging policy trends and develop proactive strategies to position the company for success.

  • Domestic Relationship Management and Advocacy: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key members of Congress, congressional staff, federal agency officials, state legislators, governors’ offices, and key local officials.  This includes building bipartisan relationships and effectively representing Motorola Solutions' interests before these stakeholders.

  • Global Relationship Management and Advocacy: Align with the international teams to engage with foreign governments, international organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to promote favorable policy outcomes and address regulatory challenges in key markets around the world.

  • Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy: Lead advocacy efforts on key legislative and regulatory issues impacting Motorola Solutions, including spectrum policy, cybersecurity, public safety funding, procurement regulations, and technology standards.  

  • Policy Analysis and Development: Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments, anticipating potential impacts on the business.  Develop and articulate clear policy positions that advance the company's interests and contribute to informed policy debates.

  • Coalition Building: Build and maintain strategic alliances with industry associations, trade groups, and other stakeholders to advance shared policy objectives and amplify Motorola Solutions' voice in policy discussions.

  • Internal Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including business unit leaders, legal, communications, marketing, and technical teams to ensure alignment on policy positions and effective execution of government affairs initiatives.

  • Team Leadership and Development: Manage a high-performing team of government affairs professionals, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities.

  • Compliance and Ethics: Ensure all lobbying activities are conducted in full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local lobbying disclosure laws and ethics regulations.

  • Budget Management: Oversee the government affairs budget and ensure resources are allocated strategically to maximize impact.

  • Travel: This role requires 15% travel (up to 25% travel) annually within North America.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (JD, MPP, MBA) preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field, including significant experience working with Congress and federal agencies.

  • Established network of relationships with key policymakers and influencers in Washington, D.C. and relevant state capitals.

  • Deep understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes at the federal, state, and local levels.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a proven track record of developing and executing successful advocacy strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.

  • Experience in the technology industry, particularly in the areas of communications, public safety, or cybersecurity, is highly desirable.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • Location: Washington, D.C. area preferred

Target Base Salary Range: $190,000 - $200,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
