Senior Director – Logistics OperationsCraft the Future of Logistics at Lilly

Are you a leader with a passion for redefining logistics? Join Lilly as the Senior Director – Logistics Operations and lead the charge in delivering pharmaceutical products to patients around the world. This role is responsible for our North American Logistics Operations (NALO), driving performance across multiple internal and external sites while crafting the strategic vision for a flexible, scalable distribution network.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

As the Senior Director – Logistics Operations, you will lead a broad scope of responsibilities across:

  • Global Distribution: Lead all aspects of the global distribution of pharmaceutical products—covering imports, exports, and domestic shipments—both from internal manufacturing and external partners.
  • Operational Leadership: Lead internal operations (Plainfield and Enfield) and third-party logistics (3PL) partners, ensuring high performance across transportation, engineering/maintenance, replenishment, returns, HSE, security, L&D, and lean practices.
  • Cross-functional Teamwork: Work closely with teams across Customer Service, Quality, Tech@Lilly, HR, and Finance to align logistics operations with broader business goals.
  • Strategic Planning: Lead business planning, set strategic priorities, and develop a long-term vision to ensure NALO continues to scale and adapt with business needs.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure full regulatory compliance (FDA and other authorities), maintain strong governance processes, and uphold GMP standards.
  • Leadership & Talent Development: Build, lead, and encourage high-performing teams while cultivating a strong pipeline of up and coming leaders.
  • Performance & Financial Management: Drive operational efficiency, handle budget targets, capital expenditures, and reporting metrics.
  • Security & Data Integrity: Ensure robust security protocols and promote a culture of data integrity and best documentation practices.
Who You Are

You're a collaborative, forward-thinking leader who thrives in sophisticated, fast-paced environments! You know how to coordinate teams, build connections, and drive results—all while maintaining a compliance mentality.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Pharmacy, Chemistry—or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of dynamic experience in logistics, operations, or supply chain leadership
What You Bring:
  • Logistics & Distribution (including QA, HSE, Engineering, Planning)
  • Financial planning and cost control
  • Replenishment and inventory strategy
  • GMP and regulatory compliance (FDA, EU, etc.)
  • Third-party supplier and customer management
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution processes
  • Security and environmental protection practices
  • Strong data analytics and executive-level communication skills
  • Experience in leading hybrid (internal/external) logistics networks
  • Comfortable addressing regulatory authorities and during audits/inspections

  • Travel: <10%
  • This role is onsite in Plainfield, IN and not approved for remote work.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$150,000 - $220,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
